1. Queen For Seven Days

Queen for Seven Days, a historical drama, is based on the true story of Joseon-era queen Dangyeong. Dangyeong was appointed as the queen of King Jungjong in the year 1506.  She stood as queen for seven days before being dethroned and driven from the palace. The drama depicts the love and struggles of a lady pushed against her will into politics. Park Min Young, Yeon Woo Jin, and Lee Dong Gun are starring in the 2017 drama.

2. Six Flying Dragons

A fictional historical drama called Six Flying Dragons was based on the lives of six individuals during the end of the Goreo dynasty in the late 1300s. Among the six dragons, Lee Bang Won, Jeong Do Jeon, and Lee Seong Gye were the individuals who existed at the time. The drama focuses on Lee Bang Won, crowned as the third king of Joseon after assisting his father, King Taejo, in founding the Joseon dynasty.

3. Reply 1988

Reply 1988 is a comedy, romance, family, and coming-of-age drama, that depicts the youth living in the late 1980s; and is based on actual events that took place during the 1988 Summer Olympics in Korea. Lee Chang-Ho, an actual international Baduk player was the inspiration for the character of Choi Taek. It is a 2015 drama starring Hyeri Lee, Ryu-Jun Yeol, and Park Bo-Gum.

4. Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth 2016

Hwarang is a 2016 romance-historical drama that shows the story of a group of elite young warriors named Hwarang, trained to protect the Kingdom. The show offers a historical idea rather than being based on a specific true story. Hwarang was a group of privileged young members of society that existed during the Silla period, as depicted in the drama. Park Seo-Joon, Go Ara, and Park Hyung Sik are the stars of the Drama.

5. Fight For My Way

Fight for My Way is a romantic-comedy drama that tells the story of Ko Dong Man, a professional boxer, and Choi Ae Ra. The show is inspired partially by the life of Choo Sung Hoon, a mixed martial artist, and his wife, Yano Shiho. It is a 2017 drama with Park Seo-Joon and Kim Ji-Won as the main characters.

6. Signal

Signal is a crime and fantasy drama. The show’s plot relies upon two people spontaneously communicating in two distinct time spaces. It does not exactly depict actual events. However, the many instances portrayed throughout the drama, such as the Hwaseong Serial Murder case, the Park Choroung Bitnari kidnapping case, etc., were actual crime incidents in Korea. Lee Je-Hoon, Kim Hye-soo, and Cho Jin-Woong appear in the 2016 drama.

7. The Empress Ki

The Empress Ki is a historical romance costume drama. Ki Seungnyang is the focus of the plot. Ki Seungnyang was born in Korea during the Goreo Dynasty. She was sent to China as a concubine for the emperor of the Yuan dynasty. Her political rise from concubine to empress is the focus of the drama. While the characters was based on people from that era, the relationships portrayed are fictional. It is a 2013 drama with Ha Ji-won, Joo Jin-mo, and Ji Chang Wook in the lead roles.

8. My Wife Is Having An Affair This Week

My Wife Is Having an Affair This Week is a 2016 romance and comedy drama starring Lee Sun Gyun, Song Ji-Hyo, and Lee Sang-Yeob. The show is associated with a real-life incident, where a guy tends to share about his wife’s affair online by stating, ‘My Wife Is Having An Affair This Week; what should I do?’ this statement went popular on the internet. It was utilized to create Japanese drama Konshu Tsuma ga Uwaki Shimasu. And then was recreated as a Korean Drama.

9. Hymn Of Death

Hymn of the Death is a 2018 mini-series based on a true story about a sad love affair. The song Praise of Death, recorded by Yun Shim deok, Korea’s first soprano, in 1926, served as the inspiration for the drama. The drama was about Shim Deok’s love story with stage drama writer Kim Woo Jin. Lee Jong-Suk, Hye-Sun Shim, and Kim Won-Hae are the lead actors in the drama.

10. Taxi Driver

Taxi Driver is a crime and action drama set in the year 2021. The show is an adaptation of the webtoon Deluxe Taxi. However, various criminal cases depicted in the drama, such as the case of Cho Doo Soon, a child rapist, are based on true-life incidents. It stars Lee Je-Hoon, Park Ye-Jin, and Esom.
