Drama Digest

Shin and Ryudai run a public bathhouse together. The public bathhouse, Otori No Yu, is located in a suburb and is more than 150 years old (since the Edo period). Shin’s family used to run the bathhouse. In the current situation, Shin is struggling to run the bathhouse due to poor finances. Ryudai and Taki(a cook and helper) help Shin in business. The drama shows if they can keep running the bathhouse while facing weird problems because of the staff and the customers.

The Feel-Good Part

The opening theme of the drama looks fresh. The OST ‘Let’s music’ is good. The show is more like a sitcom than a drama. The sitcom is short, with only ten episodes and a runtime of 30 minutes. The casts together have a nice balance. The genre of the drama is more like a deadpan comedy sitcom.

The Disappointing Factor

The storyline is okayish and scattered. There seems no continuity. The audience can only enjoy the drama if they like deadpan and cringe comedy. Some characters seem forced to be funny. The actors could have done a better job in their facial expressions. The story seems more focused on Shin, and other characters seem to exist only to support his character.

In-Depth Analysis

Ryudai and Taki tell Shin to keep the bathhouse open for business. Shin doesn’t seem interested but always acts seriously about them being the reason. All the characters and all their actions in the sitcom are weird. Their reactions always seem to be over the top. The bathhouse is not doing well financially. They face strange problems while dealing with their customers. Other neighbours of the bath house are supportive. We also get to know more about the main characters and their lives. Shin is like a hero to all the people around him. They all seem to have respect and love for him, though they aren’t sure what he was doing before taking over the bathhouse. The smooth running of the bathhouse seems impossible, with problems arising from everywhere. Shin is not even able to pay Taki and Ryudai. He also has his own set of personal issues, which hinder the business.

Star Power

The idols Sato Shori and Kitayama Hiromitsu play the roles of Umegaoka Ryudai and Matsumi Shin. All other actors are comedians by profession, and they somewhat do justice to their roles. Sato Shori and Hiromitsu have potential to improve their acting skills. Their acting lacks facial expressions and doesn’t match the vibes of the scene at most times.

Overall Opinion

The drama is not for everyone. Those who like its specific genre can enjoy it. The fans of the cast can also enjoy it. The sitcom is funny, but it fails to satisfy the audience with comedy.
