Drama Digest

“Cherry blossoms after Winter” is a 2022 Korean drama that showcases a BL story. They adapted the story from the Webtoon of the same name. The story revolves around Seo Hae Bom who suffers a tragic incident where his parents pass away. Ever since then, he has been living in Jo Tae Seong’s house as his family adopted him. They live together 24/7 but things become awkward when the two of them as they both reach 12th standard.

The Feel-Good Part

The story is just like any other teen romance, but it has some other elements to offer as well. Despite their differences, the couple grows together and experiences a sweet romance. It shows imperfections that exist within all human beings and how to cope with them. Besides that, the parent-child relationship is also sweet and supportive. It also has some serious moments which create tension and make the show interesting. The show is worth the watch as compared to the outstanding manhwa. They implemented the plot well with cute visuals and soft and warm scenery. As they grow up, the two main characters experience a change in their feelings for each other. Despite living under the same roof, they become close only when they were in the same school. Their relationship shows a lack of communication and their different mindsets. Despite the short duration, it is worth the watch.

The Disappointing Factor

Some viewers find the low budget disappointing. The story is simple with no complex plot that does not require much stress and hence it might be boring for those veteran BL drama watchers. Also, the short duration of each episode was not enough to grab the viewer’s attention. They released one episode every week, and it was a long wait for a mere 25 minutes to watch.

In-Depth Analysis

After his parents’ death, seven-year-old Seo Hae Bom moves with an adoptive family. Their family also has a son who is of the same age as Hae Bom, named Jo Tae Seong. Seo Hae Bom has lots of insecurities and thinks himself to be inferior and believes that the family is kind to let him stay. He considers Tae Seong as superior to him in everything; he is tall, smart, popular, handsome, and caring and deserves all the love and attention. But when they reach 12th standard and start going to the same high school, they spend more and more time together, both at home and at school. Unexpectedly, romance blossoms between the two, and things get awkward.

Star Power

Ok Jin Uk and Kang Hui, who played the main roles, gave remarkable performances and did not disappoint. Their chemistry was sweet. The supporting cast-Lee Hyung Kyung, Cha Gun, Johyun, and Kim Hyun Wook also played their roles well.

Overall Opinion

This is an excellent drama, short and worth the time. The story is simple and will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
