Drama Digest
Shui Wu Xia, a maid at Langya Pavilion, is hired by Jiang Manor to assist Master Jiang Bai Yu with his studies and martial arts training. The proud, valiant Wu Xia clashes with the arrogant, playful Jiang Bai Yu. Both have a secret – Wu Xia is looking for her long-lost older brother, while Bai Yu is investigating his father’s mysterious death. Fate brings them together often enough for Bai Yu to reform his wanton habits which allowed Wu Xia to witness his sincere, determined heart. Eventually, they will uncover that Wu Xia’s brother’s disappearance and Bai Yu’s father’s murder are indeed linked. Together they unveil their common enemy’s schemes, avoiding chaos and in the process, returning peace to the Jiang Continent’s citizenry.
The Feel Good Part
The drama plot is straightforward and uncomplicated, which makes it easy to understand and it does not have frequent flashbacks which do not make it repetitive or dragging. The pacing of this drama is excellent at the beginning of the drama; the story unfolds casually and is not rushed. The element of romance, comedy, and friendship is blended seamlessly.
The disappointing Part
What most critics might have found disappointing was the weak ending, which was not satisfactory. The middle plot was draggy and the story filler had a lot of plot holes. There is not enough building and logic in the mystery/ criminal cases. Hence, the ending lacked climax and intensity. The truth was uncovered most ridiculously, and the antagonist was finished easily. The CGI in this drama is not appealing.
In-Depth Analysis
The story narrative mainly revolves around Jiang Baiyu (played by– Zhang Yao ), who puts on a façade of being a playboy. However, he disguises himself as the hero Shen Qingli to find the murderer of his father seven years ago. The female lead is Shui Wuxia (played by– Wan Peng), who is a maid from Langya Hall, Wuxia is an excellent maid in every aspect. “Maids” from Langya Hall’s task is to help a young child to excel in their studies, basically being a secretary/ assistant instead of being a “maid” who cleans and cook. From then on the narrative unfolds, with them falling in love, developing friendship, and finding the truth behind it seven years ago.
Star Power
Zhang Yao and Wan Peng’s acting is commendable. Zhang Yao manages to show the two sides of Jiang Baiyu, the playboy, and Shen Qingli, the marvelous hero. Wan Peng also did an excellent job of portraying her role.
Overall Opinion
Love Like White Jade is a good drama to watch when you are looking for something light-hearted that makes you smile from time to time. Watching this drama does not require 100% concentration, you can watch this drama while doing other activities. The setbacks in the drama are not visible and have a significant impact on the drama. Although historical, this drama mostly gives off the vibe of a rom-com with a touch of ancient culture. The music in the show is pretty good, it fits well with all the scenarios, and unlike usual historical dramas, it’s very modern and upbeat.
