Drama digest

This is a crime-thriller K-drama that deals with the storyline of drug dealing. It is a real-life story that portrays how the protagonist gets accidentally involved in a drug case which leads to unexpected circumstances and changes his life forever.

The Feel-good part

The entire story is compacted into six meaningful episodes which allows the suspense to flow naturally and keeps viewers on their toes. The production value, exotic destinations, makeovers, casting, etc, are all top-notch. It also has a star-studded cast.

The disappointing factor

Though the series tried to maintain its prestige by compiling the entire story into six episodes, it couldn’t eliminate over-dragging in some parts. The story felt stretched despite its small duration. Moreover, the story is quite general and predictable as any other drugs-related story might be. The action scenes were poorly directed. Some storylines are left unexplained and unfinished.

In-depth analysis

Kang In Gu, the protagonist of the drama, is an independent middle-aged man who’s worked multiple jobs all his life to help his family. He has consistently earned enough, but currently, his life is not at the best as it could be. Now that he has a family of his own, he’s struggling to make ends meet. Ingu is desperate to find out new ways to earn money. Out of this desperation, he one day meets one of his friends who introduces him to a unique business idea. This idea is to restore the popular ‘Skate fish’ in Korea as the number seems to be depleting but the demand is huge. Ingu’s friend suggests traveling to a country called ‘Suriname’ in the South American continent as the population of Stake fish is relatively high there. He proposes to buy Stake fish from Suriname at a meager cost and sell it at high prices in Korea. Seeing no way out, Ingu agrees with this idea and visits Suriname. As little as he knows, there’s more to this place than just purchasing fish. After going to Suriname, Ingu is accidentally dragged into a drug investigation case being held secretly in Suriname by the Korean government. This happens because the fish Ingu ships to Korea were stuffed with cocaine illegally without his knowledge. For this, Ingu faces a two-year imprisonment for a crime he did not commit. While in jail, he’s approached by an agent of the National Investigation Service of Korea, Choi Chang Ho. Changho makes Ingu side with them in order to find out the real truth behind the smuggling of drugs. Just like this, Ingu gets actively involved in the investigation along with the NIS to bring all the drug lords and their misdoings to light. Many exciting events take place further.

Star power

The lead of the drama Kang In Gu, portrayed by Ha Jung Woo, shows a lot of range in his character as he depicts different sides of a single personality. As an ordinary man in the mafia and corrupt world, he delivered smoothly. One of the cast members was the star Park Hae Soo who played the role of Cho Sang-woo in the record-breaking K-drama, Squid game.

Overall opinion

The story is pretty predictable and nothing new, but it’s still likable and interesting. The production of the series is amazing, which makes it stand out from the crowd.
