Drama Digest

This is a high-school Korean drama portraying the ordinary struggles of high school students. The drama depicts common themes of romance, corruption, bromance, love triangle, etc.

The feel-good part

The visuals of the drama are appealing. The lead cast does well in portraying cute high-school students. The love triangle is not toxic and does not last long, which is relieving. The main lead of the drama is not Its main stand as he is not the most genius person in the drama, unlike other K-dramas. His lead character is a result of character development which is impressive.

The disappointing factor

All of the supporting characters of the series had multiple plot lines in a single show that constituted for insufficient time for a single plot to develop. There is a third couple in the drama, which was totally unnecessary.

In-depth analysis

Gong Ki Joon, the main male lead of the drama is an athlete. Sports and fitness have always been his passion. He is a Taekwondo player. But due to a seriously unfortunate ankle injury, he is forced to leave Taekwondo. With this, all his dreams of being a national athlete come shattering. Depressed by this, Kijoon does not know what to do ahead in his life. While he is still processing his current situation, he suffers another blow. This blow is about his father’s company going bankrupt. This shatters him to the very core and awakens a feeling within him. This feeling tells him to do something for his family. Considering this, he enrolls in a vocational school (a type of school a person can study as well as work). He starts working really hard. While in school, he meets another vocational student named Jung Yong Joo, who is hardworking and totally opposite personality from Kijoon. Soon, both bond into an unbreakable bond of friendship. Soon they find Jin Ji Won, a female second-year student struggling hard to make ends meet. Her strained relationship with her mother is the reason she had chosen this school. All three become best friends and help each other with everything. Soon a fourth female member joins their group too. The relationship between Kijoon and Jiwon develops into a romantic one later in the show. All four of them go through various struggles in life together.

Star power

Of the four main characters, the second female lead, portrayed by Choi Yi Hyun, was the best. Her character was well-written and had the most range. Her acting skills stood out the most.

Overall opinion

This is a regular K-drama portraying various themes of life. Someone looking for a cliché high-school drama can give this one a try.
