Drama Digest
This show is about China’s National Student Entrance Examination. It is called GaoKao in China. Every year millions of students take this exam to join college. In this show, the five directors of different countries have shown the Gaokao procedure during the Covid 19 pandemic.
The five directors came from China, Japan, Cambodia, The US, and The UK. They overcame several difficulties to show the audiences the everyday life of Chinese students and their families. How a student’s family prepared for Gaokao during the epidemic has been beautifully portrayed here.
The Feel-Good Part
All episodes are different from each other. Every episode has its director. The first episode was shot by a Japanese director named Takeuchi Ryo. He focused on the volunteers in Nanjing, East China’s Jiangsu Province. He shows a taxi driver as a volunteer who drives candidates to the exam venue. In the first segment, the audience can watch it.
The second segment was filmed by director Arthur Jones from the UK. In this part, the audience can show the story of a Shanghai Candidate who had a severe fever just before the exams.
US director Mitchell Farkas followed a candidate in Beijing whose mother was working as a medical worker at an ICU amid the Covid 19 epidemic for his segment. The director and his crew had to wear isolation suits while filming them.
Cambodian director Sibxy a PANH and Chinese director Kang Chengye respectively recorded stories of candidates in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Wuhan, Central China’s Hubel Province.
The Disappointing Factor
The cinematography could have been better. Whoever wants to watch romance or drama in this documentary will be disappointed. The whole documentary is about exams, people may get bored while watching it. The ending could have been better.
