The Feel-Good Part

The overall concept and story of the drama are exciting. It has an imperial setting and an intense storyline and a conflict that can genuinely affect all the characters within the drama. The portrayal of love within this drama is impeccable. The main couple has great chemistry and works excellently with each other. Aside from them, we also have a fascinating and loveable secondary couple that at moments is better than an actual couple in the show. They can breathe new life and lightness into the drama. The drama also has a beautiful soundtrack. Perhaps the best aspect of the entire show is the visuals and cinematography, which not only give the show a great look but also enhance the story in a variety of ways.

The Disappointing Factor

The show is exceptionally long, with a runtime of 40 episodes. While shows can run for several seasons, this is one season following one overarching plot. The biggest problem in the drama is that the greatness does not justify the length. It makes it prone to using tropes, cliches, and filler moments that do not add to the final plot. What’s more disappointing is that the main plot point of foresight does not go beyond two episodes. The main character seemingly makes terrible decisions, and rather than learn from them, she keeps repeating them. Her major flaw is that she is not a strong female character on her own but rather only exists under the gaze of her family and her lover.

In-Depth Analysis

The drama is an excellent look into the fragile nature of imperial states and how families needed to make compromises to keep themselves safe. It looks at leaving your agency for the safety and security of your family, nation, and everyone you love. Overall, it shows us the concept of destiny and fate and how it is not something you can change, your life just falls into place, and there is nothing you can do about it. The best you can do is enjoy the moments where you do have control over the outcomes.

Star Power

The show was written by Jin Yuan Yuan, the writer of several other projects such as Fighter of the Destiny, A River Runs Through It, and Legend of Yun Xi. There are two directors at the helm of this show that gives it this great visual aesthetic and storyline. These directors are Lin Jian Long and Chen Guo Hua. Lin Jian Long directed several other projects such as Fall in Love, Lanterns, and Go! Goa! Fighting!, and Painting Heart Expert. Chen Guo Hua directed projects such as Fall in Love alongside Lin Jian Long and White War. Our two leads are Fu Rong and Prince Su, played by Ju Jing Yi and Zhang Zhe Han. The two have great chemistry throughout the show. Their love seems genuine, and there is never a dull moment when both of them are not on screen together. Ju Jung Yi stars in The Unexpected, Novoland: The Castle in the Sky, Diamond Samoyeds, and Catman. Zhang Zhe Han stars in Legend of Yun Xi, Demon Girl 2, Everyone Wants To Meet You, Brother, The Bravest, and Haunting Love. Our secondary couple, played by Wang You Shuo and Kiki Xu, are the cutest couple to have on-screen, with fun interactions.

Overall Opinion

The show is masterfully crafted, it has its flaws, but overall, it is beautiful and has an exciting story to tell. A tale of romance, sadness and the will to fight destiny truly encapsulates its audience.
