Tomoya Okazaki hated his life. He is a third-year high-school student whose mother had passed away from a car accident at the time he was young. As a result of his mother’s death, his father resorted to unhealthy coping mechanisms like alcohol and gambling. Tomoya often fought with his father due to his addictive habits. He needed some colour in his dull life which is brought in by a girl he unexpectedly meets while walking to school one day.

5. My Ordinary Life

My ordinary life follows the life of three ordinary girls who make their life’s awkward moments a million times more embarrassing by doing something worse. Meanwhile, there’s a professor who also makes the life of a robot difficult. The only thing the robot wanted was to be normal; however, needless to say, it does not end that way. Normal is the last thing that would happen in the town where people experience salmon rain from the sky. You only have your friends whom you can count on but beware because they are just as weird!

6. K-ON

K-on is a light-hearted anime that showcases the story of a group of high school girls who get to know each other because of the Light Music Club. It features the five young girls’ aspirations to be musicians and how their journey towards their dreams starts from high school altogether.

7. Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day

Meiko Menma, a little girl, died in an accident when Jinta Yadomi and his friends were young. As a result, Jinta becomes distant from society. Oftentimes, he sees an older-looking ghost of Menma who used to tell him how she had a wish that needed to be fulfilled only then she’ll be able to get to the afterlife. At first, he thinks he’s hallucinating but later it turns out that the ghost was not just in his imagination. He gathers his friends, who were reluctant at first, to let Menma fulfill her forgotten wish and move on.

8. Barakamon

Seishuu Handa is a young, aspiring calligrapher who is severely talented. However, he is an arrogant narcissist. He once absolutely lost his cool when his award-winning piece was labelled ‘unoriginal’. As a punishment for his immature behavior, his father exiled him to an Island where life was very different from the luxury of typical city life. Handa thought he’d be going to a much more peaceful place away from people. However, the island was the total opposite of peaceful. Throughout the story, he learns so many things that he had never imagined he would.

9. Grand Blue

Iori Kitahara is about to start a new life on the Izu Peninsula. While preparing for college, he started living in a room which was above his uncle’s diving shop named ‘Grand Blue.’ However, it was not a regular room. He was shocked to meet the people of the local Diving Club there who were fully grown men with buff bodies. The funny thing about them was that they spent most of their time partying out, drinking beer, and stripping than actually diving. Kitahara tries to distance himself from them but gets swept up among them soon enough.

10. Hyouka

Houtarou Oreki is rather a quiet and uninterested high school student. He does not wish to waste energy on the ordinary life of a student and wishes to lead an extremely plain life. However, things do not go according to his plan and his boring life drastically turns around one day after receiving a letter from his older sister who was living overseas. He is introduced to a mystery that he was very much intrigued in solving along with some of his acquaintances.
