In 2022 the Tokyo Government finally recognized same-sex partnerships because why should love be limited to only men and women? So here we have a list of the Top ten Japanese movies that represent the LGBT community of Japan.

1. Boku Mo Aitsu Mo Shinro Desu

English Name:  We are both grooms

Boku Mo Aitsu mo Shinro desu' is a romantic comedy film on gay marriage. On the wedding day of Seto Ryosuke, a teacher, and Aikawa Mizuki, a lemon farmer, Mizuki finds out that his soon-to-be partner didn't tell his parents, relatives, and friends that he is marrying a man. This discovery lights up the drama and outburst between the heads of two families

 

2. Cheery Magic! Thirty Years Of Virginity Can Make You A Wizard?!

Cherry Magic is a heart-warming fantasy romantic film depicting a gay couple. One has magical powers which allow him to read the minds of anyone he touches and a 30-year-old virgin. The other, Kurosawa, is Adachi's love interest and is very popular and successful. They both are secretly lovers.  Due to work, Adachi is sent to his new job in Nagasaki, 1200 km away. That leads to challenges in their long-distance relationship leading them to think about their future.

 

3. Kei X Yaku: Abunai Aibou

English Name:  Kei x Yaku: Dangerous Partners

This Japanese drama is a thriller and mystery drama. "Joker Case," a case from three years ago, was dissolved without resolution. An investigator, Ichiro Kunishita, was summoned for a reunion of the investigation and told to take on a completely different role.  He was assigned to monitor and spy on Hanabusa Shiro, a young head of a gang clan. Shiro was said to be a man of many mysteries who rose to the rank of Wakagashira. During his mission, Ichirou learns a shocking fact and decides to have a fake love contract with Shiro.

 

4. What Did You Eat Yesterday?

'What did you eat yesterday' is a romantic comedy-drama based on a manga.  Kenji and Shiro are a gay couple who live together. One is a lawyer, who is not open to sexuality at work, and the other is a hairdresser, openly homosexual. When out together, someone asks Kenji, the hairdresser, if Shiro is his gay lover. The couple feels embarrassed, given how it is posed in public and feels the awkwardness set in.

 

5. Sing In Love

'Sing in Love' is a Japanese movie based on LGBTQ+ Manga.  Jin, a temporary school teacher, is on his way to getting a permanent position when a traumatic experience plunges him into darkness. A few months later, he meets a mysterious man named Kai, who provokes Jin's memories and past. Kai is obsessed with Jin and pushes him to confront his darkness. Both men battle to face their emotional injury and inspire healing.

 

6. Minato Shouji Coin Laundry

'Minato Shouji Coin Laundry' is a heartwarming comedy drama. Akira Minato inherited his grandfather's coin laundry and left his corporate job for it. One day, Katsuki Shintaro, a high school student, enters the coin laundry. Despite the age difference, they become friends. Shintaro finds out Akira is gay and falls in love with him. This drama got adapted from the manga 'Minato Shouji Coin Laundry.'

 

7. Old Fashion Cupcake

'Old Fashion Cupcake' is a Gay Romance Japanese drama.  Sleep-wake-work sums up the day of Nozue, a 39-year-old office worker. A routine that conversely weighs heavily on him and worries his hard-eyed cute subordinate, Togawa, a 29-year-old junior. In an unexpected turn of events, they both end up at a pancake shop bustling with girls.

 

8. Cutie Pie

Cutie Pie is a 2022 Romantic comedy drama. Lian Kilen Wang and Kirin Keerati are in trouble. Because of a promise they made to their parents, they find themselves heading toward an arranged marriage. Wang is a free-spirited musician, and Kirin is an outward businessman. While Kirin is keen to explore a happy life with Lian, the feeling is not mutual. Lian is cold towards Kirin. Eventually, Lian indicated breaking off their engagement. Later Lian starts to have feelings for Kirin.

 

9. The Stranger By The Shore

It is an Animated gay romantic drama movie. Shun Hashimoto, an openly gay novelist living in Okinawa, was abandoned by his parents. Mio Chibana, an orphaned high school student, is found spending time by the beach. The two meet on a beach one day, and Shun is captivated by Mio. They slowly grow closer until Mio announces that he has to leave for the mainland. Three years later, Mio returns to Okinawa to confess his love to Shun. However, Shun's life has changed in these three years.

 

10. Gameboys: The Movie

Gameboy is a romantic gay drama. Based on the first 'Boys' Love Interest' series in the Philippines. Gameboys The Movie shows the story of two gamers turned lovers, Cairo and Gavreel. They spend their time together. It starts as a romantic holiday and a relationship test.
