Parting between two characters is a very sweet sorrow. Especially in anime, reuniting can turn out to be even more sadder. Sometimes the main characters are seperated, and the audience become emotional when they finally find their way towards each other again. Sometimes, it is a bittersweet reunion that occurs following an unfortunate event or that is driven by a character’s desire to get revenge. For whatever reason, reunions are the most emotional moments in anime.
1. Luffy And The Straw Hats- One Piece
One Piece’s famous Straw Hats pirates were separated after their utterly disastrous loss in the battle against Bartholomew Kuma. They were all individually weak to protect each other and decided to remain separated to grow independently. Two years of separation later, the Straw Hats and Luffy eventually come back together again. This reunion is quite heartwarming as they could finally catch up.
2. Gon And His Dad- Hunter x Hunter
Throughout the whole show, Gon’s primary purpose and motivation to be a Hunter is to find his father, who when Gon was young left to be a Hunter. The audience follows him and his friends through their ups and downs. When Gon finally meets his father, Ging, it is an emotional and heartwarming moment for the audience. Seeing him accomplish his long-sought goal was undoubtedly very satisfying.
3. Tanjiro And His Family- Demon Slayer
Demon Slayer fans are aware that Tanjiro’s main goal to be a slayer was to save Nezuko, his sister and to be able to avenge his family’s death. This overarching truth about his motivation leads to one of the show's most sad and heartwarming scenes. During a hypnosis-induced sleep caused by Enmu, the demon, through which he is convinced that he finally met with his family again. Finally, seeing him happy hits fans right in the feels.
4. Eren Severs Ties With Armin And Mikasa- Attack On Titan
Mikasa, Armin, and Eren have been best friends since childhood. Despite having to endure tragic events together, Eren is the most affected by the sheer weight on his shoulders. After escaping prison, he meets up with Mikasa and Armin. The mind games he plays with Mikasa and Armin are heartbreaking for fans. Eren and Armin get into a brutal fistfight. Though Armin was beaten badly, the relationship between these friends was hurt the most.
5. Kaoru And Kenshin’s Love Story- Rurouni Kenshin
This anime is often viewed by fans as one of the best anime ever as Kenshin grapples with cleansing his soul of his dark past. One of the most controversial aspects, however, comes in its conclusion. Kaoru and Kenshin after years of being seperated are reunited, but this is short-lived as both of them die from an unnamed disease. This death left all the fans furious and many of them sad.
6. Naruto And Sasuke- Naruto
Naruto and Sasuke’s love and hate relationship seemed to tilt towards the latter when they finally reunited in an epic battle at the end of the series. However, this fight didn’t fix their disagreement but made it more complicated. They had many emotional reunions throughout the series, but the most emotional one was outside the Orrcihimaru’s fortress.
7. Yuuki’s Final Farewell- Sword Art Online
Yuuki’s reunion with the rest of the part in the anime was by far the saddest moment. When she hadn’t been seen in the game for some time, Asuna decided to get to the bottom. The truths she arrives in the real world are quite upsetting. Yuuki, in real life, was suffering from a terminal illness. Asuna helps Yuuki reunite with everyone in the game to spend her last moments surrounded by her friends.
8. Akkun And Takemichi- Tokyo Revengers
This anime has a thing for tragic character reunions. After almost being killed by being pushed in front of a train, Takemichi is suddenly transported into the past. However, the most emotional reunion is when Takemichi meets with Akkun, his best friend. After returning to the present, he reaches out to Akkun, whom he hasn’t seen for ten years. At his building's rooftop, Akkun admits that he was the one who pushed Takemichi in front of the train.
9. Sasuke And His Brother
Itachi’s backstory is as complex as any anime. One of the main aspects of it is his relationship with his younger brother, Sasuke, and the disdain Sasuke has for his brother. One of the most emotionally impactful moments is when Sasuke meets his brother's reincarnated body after learning the truth of what Itachi had to endure for the village's sake. It is a tragic reunion and a final farewell.
10. Gon And Kite
In the anime Gon’s mentor Kite is captured after defending Kilauea and Gon in a battle against Pitou, who is quite powerful. Since then, Gon blames himself and is trying to save and find Kite no matter what. Unfortunately, when he reunited with Kite, he had already passed away. Gon has a mental breakdown during which he loses complete control and taps into the entirety of his Nen reserves.
