Movie Digest

Toshizo Hijikata becomes a samurai and is designated as the vice commander of Shinsengumi. The movie depicts his battle During the Japan Civil War against the Meiji Restoration.

The Feel-Good Part

The acting, props, costume, and cinematography, I must say, are terrific. Even the fight scenes were excellent. There’s so much action-packed in it. The story spans back to the 19th century and depicts the rise and fall of these characters, capturing historical Japan flawlessly.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie is around 150 mins long, it might sound like a long movie, but I felt it was quick-paced, considering the fact there was too much to show in the film. The movie somewhat lacks good CGI, and it can be overlooked due to a good storyline and acting.

In-Depth Analysis

Baragaki: Unbroken Samurai is based on Historical Novelist Shiba Ryotaro’s novel ‘Moeyo Ken’(Burn my sword), serving as the Japanese title for the film. The film began its shooting in February 2019 and was completed in April 2019. Kyoto, Shiga, and Okayama were the prime filming locations. It was set to release on 2020, but was postponed to 2021 because of Covid19.

Star Power

Okada Junichi as Hijikata Toshizou did a commendable job executing the role, and so did the other cast, making it worth a watch.

Overall Opinion

This movie might be a long one, but if you hold onto it and watch it with keen interest and patience, it surely will be an enjoyable watch andget to know about Ancient Japan.
