Movie Digest

With the background as Chongqing, the movie basically portrays a story as written by a son with regard to his father’s life. It gives an account on how he came into his father’s life along with how his dad finds his life partner; their days together and all the way up-to his adulthood where he gets married. The film shows a time span of nearly a decade and also helps in showing the various generation gaps and the difference in the two kinds of families where he lived.

The Feel-Good Part

The better part of the movie lies where they focus on LGBTQ family, its issues and how healthily they depicted their relationship; which goes on smoothly. The fact that at least Yu Wang’s parents accepted him for who he really was gives immense pleasure. The son recognizing both his parents as dads was also something very maturely intricated. The way the son was taken good care of even though he was deprived of a mother’s love shows that fathers can also take over the responsibility of raising a child the very same way females do. The movie title being explained at the end was a good piece of work.

The Disappointing Factor

The fact that disappoints is that the movie has a not so digestible ending in both the generations. Along with that the filming quality also serves to be very poor. Romance was also flat. The way their relationship starts was not even that logical. They could have tried to improve it a lot by showing more details and insight into the story. The relationship between the child and his parents was included in rarely a few scenes.

In Depth Analysis

It show-cases the story of three different unrelated men and what all things they are faced by in their lives. It also points its way towards how unfriendly the older generation is towards the LGBTQ community. The fact that one’s parents have accepted him and the others being still mad with him over his sexual preferences shows how much pressure they are faced by their families. The differences and tolerance level of the different generations have also been included significantly.

Star Power

The actors have done a graceful job by trying to feature out the roles given to them. The storyline being very weak seems to have affected the talents of the actors too as they couldn’t pull out much of their ability to the show. All the actors seem to be not that experienced too. The other side characters had also backed up the story as they could.

Overall Opinion

It’s definitely not the best movie you could ever watch. The plotline is also very thin. It’s highly recommended to watch the movie by keeping aside all the high expectations because there are chances you might regret watching it. For a movie made by a rookie director this seems to be fine.
