Drama Digest

SaifahZon Story is the about the time before Saifah and Zon when to the beach with Fighter and Tiger. The main plot revolves around the confusion of Zon’s feelings and the time he told Zol to delete her novel about him and Saifah.

The Feel-Good Part

The mini-series proves to be a delight for the fans of the original show- ‘Why R U?’ It shows the missing scenes between the characters, especially the main romances. The series really benefits from the familiar feeling of the show, and helps give the audience an in-depth view of what happened in between the titular scenes. The characters are beloved by the fan base and this show really justifies that element of the series. The chemistry of the protagonists practically carries the plot and remains central to the series. There is a lot of sweet moments between the characters, the overall tone is joyous and makes for a really good feel-good piece of media. The opening title and the original soundtrack add to the delightful, light feeling to the story.

The Disappointing Factor

The trailer of the series was extremely misleading as it hinted towards a new story. There is nothing new the show has to offer apart from the hidden scenes that may add a new layer to the original characters. The series might feel redundant and pointless because of this, which may be a deal-breaker for certain members of the audience the show was aimed at. It is more like a filler and a piece of fan service rather than a concrete story, and hence people that were not fans of the original show may not enjoy watching this. The music is also carried forward from the first season, which is disappointing. Despite being only three episodes long, the show isn’t consistent with its quality. Episodes one and two are richer with plot and the chemistry between the characters, however the third episode feels like a waste of time as there is nothing much left to add. It could’ve easily been done away with. Since the show is so closely knit with original series, it gets confusing to watch because of its fragmented narrative structure.

In-Depth Analysis

The mini-series has tried to maintain the feelings the original invoked. Its attempt to be consistent is admirable because it delivers well in that aspect. BL shows have been popular for a while now and the mini-series is a perfect representation of why they work so well, it is cute and easy-going. Despite its lack of newness, the show has a lot to offer in terms of a deeper understanding of the characters, which fans of the show will appreciate. All in all, it is well-executed as a series of bonus episodes to the original show, instead of a stand-alone mini-series.

Star Power

The performances in the show are incredible. They make the chemistry between the characters believable and keep the audience excited despite the lack of new plotlines, which is commendable.

Overall Opinion

Fans of the original show will definitely enjoy to this to some degree. A new audience may not be as story, they should start with Why R U and then come back to this for a more coherent viewing experience.
