Drama Digest
“Ex’s Revenge” also known as “Don’t Mess with Ex-Girlfriend” is a 2022 Chinese drama. It tells the story of a designer named An Duo Duo. She was about to marry Qin Lang and they already started the wedding preparations. That’s when she found out that he is cheating on her with his lover Li Wei Wei. It is followed by a series of complex events that mark the beginning of a war.
The Feel-Good Part
This is a pleasant drama with strong main characters. It does not follow the usual storyline of having a weaker female character that suffers adversity in silence, but this one has a strong base and stands up for herself whenever necessary. This show gives a fresh dimension to the existing mainstream shows. The character development is great and does not disappoint at all. Besides that, the male lead’s character was also splendid with a humble character that supports the female throughout the show without being judgmental. They showed outstanding chemistry. The added elements of the antics and evil characters added the right of entertainment to the show. The story is both predictable and unpredictable, but it is still acceptable for a rom-com.
The Disappointing Factor
Some viewers complained about the show’s low budget but it does not affect the story significantly. The over-excitement in the drama seemed draggy at some points, but it was intentional. Some scenes had poor camera angles and weak script writing.
In-Depth Analysis
While the wedding preparations were going on, An Duo Duo finds her fiancé Qin Lang in bed with his lover Li Wei Wei. But even after getting caught, Qin Lang did not cancel the marriage. Instead, he married Li Wei Wei. Surprised by the incident, An Duo Duo hired the head of the Qin family, Qin Qi, to become her fake husband at her ex’s wedding. Although Qin Qi helped her, the fake marriage was difficult for him because of his reasons. Li Wei Wei tried to provoke An Duo Duo but later both Li Wei Wei and Qin Lang discovered that it was a mistake messing with someone like An Duo Duo. This ex-girlfriend won’t sit and suffer. And therefore, a war is about to begin.
Star Power
The female lead played by Zhao Qing, did an outstanding performance. Her role in the show was a strong one, and she delivered it with great elegance. The male character Qin Qi also performed his role of a humble character well. But few of the side characters delivered their act poorly.
Overall Opinion
This show is worth watching for all the excitement it delivers. It is short and does not need significant investment. The story is unique with a fresh character.
