Drama Digest

Mashiba Kurumi is a publicist for an interior design company called El Arco Iris. It is gradually getting popular with the youth on social media. Being a fashionista, she takes a lot of care of her appearance and what others think is important to her.

She loves dressing up and taking pictures of her numerous outfits, which she posts online. It attracts a lot of positive attention and also helps her company promote its products. She is very hard working and strives to earn the admiration of her co-workers, especially her boss, Hayama Shogo, who is her source of inspiration.

But work is hectic and she gets so caught up in it that she forgets to renew the lease of her apartment. She loses her place, but luckily, her friend Kouko aids her to find a residence.

The place, however, is shared by three other people:  a chef called Fujino Shun, who is drawn to a more simplistic life, his cousin, Terai Haruto, who works online as a counsellor to guide troubled people, and an aspiring artist called Hase Ayaka, who part-times as a delivery driver while pursuing her passion for contemporary art.

The four people, from different backgrounds, vocations, ages, and values come together to live under one roof. Although they clash, they gradually start to enjoy each other’s company, deepen their friendships, and live life as it is.

The Feel-Good Part

The entire series is a feel-good ride. It is honest and vulnerable and it gives the viewer a warm, cosy glow in their hearts.

The Disappointing Factor

The series does not disappoint in any way or form.

In-Depth Analysis

The most striking thing about the series is the characters. Kurumi, Shun, Haruto, and Ayaka are someone a lot of youth relate to. Youth is a confusing time for a lot of people. It acts as a bridge between the dewy dream-laden childhood people are just growing out of, and the harsh, cold, disappointment-filled light of adulthood. A lot of people become very jaded because of that.

However, the series tries to show that path as something that doesn’t need to be that harsh. It sets an optimistic tone through its portrayal of the characters, giving an important message to the audience, that no matter how hard you fall, you should always pick yourself up to either continue or find a new way.

The series also shows how different people handle situations. When Kurumi is faced with a difficult situation, she shuts down, while Shun tries to protect himself by putting up a cheerful façade. Nevertheless, all of them still find a way to smile.

Despite its cheerful atmosphere, the series is rooted in reality. It doesn’t get carried away and risk becoming cheesy. The characters make careful, well-thought-out decisions, that don’t change their lives overnight. Rather the effect is gradual, and therefore more permanent. It sends another message; yes, life is hard, and you will cry sometimes but don’t forget to smile.

I like Kurumi the most. She is decided, has clear boundaries, and works hard for what she believes in. She never hesitates to do the right thing. In a lot of ways, she and her friends are good examples for young people.

Star Power

Kawaguchi Haruna, Yokohama Ryusei, Natsukawa Yui, Nakamura Anne, and Maruyama Ryuhei are absolutely stunning. Mukai Osamu, Iio Kazuki, and Yamashita Mizuki turn in solid performances as well.

Overall Opinion

It’s a very perfect show. I will recommend it to my friends.
