Drama Digest

The Hyakkaou Private Academy educates children from powerful political and economic families. A series of games are used to classify the students’ rankings. The students who claim victory in the games become the ruling elite, while those who are defeated become slaves. Yumeko Jabami (Minami Hamabe), a strange girl, is moved to Hyakkaou Private Academy one day. She appears innocent and beautiful, but she is a professional gambler who likes the adventure of taking advantage of opportunities.

The Feel-good part

Mary Saotome arrives at school, promptly encounters one of her old elementary school fellow students already a housepet, and introduces the school’s gambling system. Mary is challenged to a Speed Daifugo by another student, Kokoro Aiura. Even though Mary appears to be doing quite well, Kokoro ultimately wins. Mary is on the edge of becoming a housepet because she owes Kokoro 300,000 yen. On the other hand, Tsuzura offers her 500 000, prompting Mary to rematch with Kokoro. She doubts that she is being misled and is tricking herself. Mary comes out on top and reclaims her winnings. Tsuzuru then expresses her admiration for Mary.

The Disappointing factor

Aside from this concept and sour taste, the first season of Kakegurui was enjoyable, but not the second season or the movie, which was found to be significantly weaker in comparison. There was an expectation that a lot of scenes were to be recreated as they were in the manga. There was a lot of humor, but it was always taken too far, which made it silly. The actors were good, especially Juraku, who was terrific.

In-depth analysis

Mary focuses on getting used to school and gambling with this intensity, and she picks up on things rapidly. The viewers cheered more for Mary’s victories as compared to Yumeko’s at the start of the past episodes. Because it was believed Mary is a bit more of an underdog than Yumeko, the gambling addict. Additionally, because she comes across as an ordinary person, people find Mary more relatable.

Star power

If logically speaking, Saotome Mary is already the most lovable character. (or the slightest uncharismatic, as you wish) and especially so in this “sequel series,” trying to portray her rookie instances with a stable dose of humor, which tends to make for a highly entertaining watch.

Overall opinion

This volume drew the viewers in quickly, and the high drama and twisted logic of specific card and dice games kept me on the forefront of my couch, as they always did. We can see a more challenging Mary. But one who is no less ambitious as she begins to work her way up to becoming a winner, which is her overarching goal. Without a doubt, the storyline is unique and entertaining. The ups and downs are intriguing. The cast of characters is excellent.
