Drama Digest

This Chinese drama is based on the concept of metaphoric time travel. The protagonist of the show is a middle-aged woman who is fed up of her life. Nothing seems to happen well in any aspect since her marriage crumbled. She is tired of her life and wants to give up already. To escape this depressive life, she decides to time travel to relive all the precious time she has lost. She travels back in time and becomes her 20-year-old self and tries to do everything she couldn’t because of lost time. Now, she strives to work and bring her life on the right track.

The Feel-Good Part

The concept of metaphoric time travel is the best thing about the series. It gives the valuable message that we can restart our lives whenever we want to and there is no specific time for anything. The concept of a mother, and son studying together was a unique one. It also gives a slight message of women empowerment.

The Disappointing Factor

The female lead is quite depressed at the start of the show, which was both annoying and disturbing to watch. It had negative vibes and made the show tedious to watch at the beginning.

In-Depth Analysis

The female protagonist of the drama is named He Pei Jin. She is a middle-aged woman. She is married and has a teenage son. After many successful years of marriage, her husband suddenly asked her for a divorce. The reason he gave is of  the cultural gap. This entirely breaks Peijin, and her life comes crumbling down. She had gotten married at a very early age and had not given much thought to her career then. But now, because her marriage has failed after years, she remembers all the time and opportunities she has burned and turned down just for looking after her family. She has been a sincere housewife all these years without complaining. Hence, this divorce phase is a depressive and life-altering phase for her. She is now rethinking her life and wants to travel back in time. She anyway decides to finally live her life in her own ways and decides to go back in college. She enrolls in her son’s college as an advance student, but her son does not like it. Everyone around the college feels weird about a middle-aged woman studying along with them. She faces the problem of the generational gap with her classmates. Her son mostly ignores and despises her for this, but she decides not to give up this time, no matter what. After the passage of some time, she starts winning over her young classmates with her wisdom and soon becomes the star of their campus. She develops a romantic relationship with one of her male teachers, a middle-aged man, Lu Tian Qi. At first, she is hesitant to fall in love again, but after remembering her husband’s untrustworthiness, she decides to be brave and embrace whatever life has for her. She soon graduates with flying colors and finally fulfills her life’s biggest wish. In this way, Peijin metaphorically relives her life’s younger years without actually going back in time.

Star Power

Pei Jin, herself, was the focus of the show as the entire story revolved around her.

Overall Opinion

This story is about the redemption of one’s life by self after living in despair for many years. One can always revive themselves and restart their life whenever one wants. It is not a very interesting drama to watch, but it still gives us cute and valuable moments and lessons.
