Drama Digest
In the late Ming Dynasty, a time when the nation faced enemies both externally as well as internally, the young hero Geng Yu Jing discovered that his parent’s death was due to a conspiracy. He embarked on the journey of self-discovery, traveling back to his birthplace situated in the Northeast frontiers of China. He got to know dark secrets of the past, and found warm friendship and romance with all this he also found sorrow. These occurrences prepared him to make him the legend as the ‘First asked of Wudang’. The drama is adapted from a novel of the same name by Liang Yu Sheng.
The Feel-Good Part
The live locations of filming at scenic places were beautiful, and the fighting choreography was satisfying. The costumes were unique and pretty. The male and female lead’s costumes were excellent. The racing was good-going. The plot starts slow, and the upbringing of the male lead.
The Disappointing Factor
The fighting scenes were not admired in the initial episodes. The slow-motion fighting scenes in Wuxia drama were not suitable. The storyline, editing, and cinematography was not reasonable. The male lead is wishy-washy with love.
In-Depth Analysis
The storyline begins with tragedy struck in the initial episodes and got more complicated as the story continuous. The chemistry between the couples was not promising. But the leads were immature. Their character development was also dumb. They were more like playmates rather than being a couple. Dong Fang Liang and Lan Shui Fang made the series bearable. Their tragedy was most brutal to bear. They were the only couple who had a happy ending. The show was not like heavenly sword and dragon slaying. It presented adventures, but it didn’t show the growth in martial arts skills. The female lead seemed powerless. The show could have been made more interesting by adding things instead of simply showing the adventures.
Star Power
All the actors were mediocre. The drama is enhanced by the performances of the actors.
Overall Opinion
It is a watchable drama with some adequate stuff to go on with. For some action this drama can be picked up.
