What is Maknae? In Korea, Maknae means the “youngest” group member. The term Maknae is widely used in the K-pop industry and can also be used to refer to the youngest member of the family and friends group. In K-pop groups, Maknae is babied and loved by the older members and is precious because they are like the group's baby. Although the term Maknae means the youngest, many of them have gained global recognition due to their astonishing talent and ability to stand out among many.
1. Jeon Jungkook
Jungkook, born on September 1, 1997, is one of the famous K-pop singers from a boy band group called BTS (Bangtan Sonyendan). The youngest member of BTS, Jungkook has the title of “Golden Maknae.” Jungkook earned the title of “Golden Maknae” because of his ability to be good at everything he does. Lalisa Manobal (birth name Pranpriya Manobal), famously known as Lisa, is a member of a South Korean girl band group called “Blackpink,” which debuted under YG Entertainment. Lisa, 26 years old, is a Thai rapper, singer and dancer. The singer is the Maknae of her group. She is often regarded as the “Royal Maknae” because of her popularity and incredible talented skills. Lisa is one of the most influential and famous Korean idols on social media. She is called “The Pride of Thailand” for multiple reasons, like spreading Thai heritage globally and outshining so many.
3. Yang Jeong In
Yang Jeong In, known as I.N, is from Busan, South Korea, born on February 8, 2001. Jeongin is a member of a boy band group called “Stray Kids.” He is the vocalist and Maknae of the group. The singer is called 'Maknae on Top' because of one of his songs, 'Maknae on Top'. I.N. was a trainee at JYP Entertainment for two years, after which he debuted in the same company with seven other members in 2018 as a group called the Stray Kids.
4. Chou Tzu-yu
Tzuyu is a Taiwanese singer based in South Korea. She was born on June 14, 1999. Tzuyu is a member of a girl group band called “Twice,” formed under JYP Entertainment in 2015. The youngest member of the group is, a.k.a the “Savage Maknae.” The singer is not afraid to convey her opinion and is quiet yet deadly. She often hilariously roasts her teammates unexpectedly, which is why she is called as the “Savage Maknae.”
5. Kai Kamal Hueing
Kai Kamal Hueing, commonly known as Hueing Kai, is a South Korean-American singer, songwriter, and producer under BigHit Music, born on August 14, 2002. The singer debuted on January 15, 2019, with the boy band group “Tomorrow X Together.” Hueing Kai is a vocalist, dancer, rapper, and visualist. He is the youngest member of the group and is often regarded as the “Diamond Maknae” due to his impeccable musical skills like playing the piano, drums, flute, and guitar.
6. Shin Yu-na
Shin Yu-Na, also known as Yuna, is a South Korean singer of a girl group band called “ITZY,” under JYP Entertainment, debuted on February 12, 2019. On December 9, 2003, Yuna was born in Gyeonggi, South Korea. The singer is the lead rapper, lead dancer, vocalist, visuals, and Maknae of the group. Yuna is also the tallest member of her group i.e. 172cm, or 5.8 ft.
7. Park Ji-sung
Park Ji-sung or Jisung, is a member of a boy band group called NCT Dream and NCT U. Jisung was born on February 5, 2022, in Seoul. He is a singer-songwriter, rapper, dancer, and actor. The singer is the lead dancer, sub-vocalist, sub-rapper, and Maknae of NCT Dream and NCT U under SM Entertainment, which turned out to be one of the most selling boy bands in South Korea. Jisung started his career in the industry at a very young age when he first joined a dance crew of Popping Hyun Jun, and by the age of 8, he was also a child actor.
8. Oh Se-Hun
Oh Se-hun, called as Sehun, is a member of a boy band group called “EXO,” which debuted under SM Entertainment in 2011. Sehun is the youngest member of the group, a.k.a. the “Spoiled Maknae.” The EXO members are always ahead when it comes to spoiling the youngest member of the group with all the love and adoration they have for him. Sehun was born on 1994, in Seoul. The singer is the Maknae of his family, with one elder brother.
9. Nishimura Riki
Nishimura Riki, famously known by his stage name Ni-Ki, is a member of a South Korean boy band group called “Enhypen.” Ni-Ki is the Maknae of the group and is the only Japanese member. Ni-ki has a solid Japanese fan base, which is pretty big, and due to his fun personality and dancing skills, he has a vast International fan base, too. During 2016-17, Riki was the backup dancer for SHINee. A fan of Michael Jackson, he kept his stage name as “Riki Jackson” before his debut. Nikki hails from Japan and was born on December 9, 2005.
10. Yoon San Ha
Yoon San Ha, or Sanha, is the Maknae of the boy band group called “Astro.” Sanha is a South Korean singer-songwriter, model, and actor under “Fantiago”. The singer was born on March 21, 2000, and is the group's vocalist. He was also a member of the sub-unit of Astro Moonbin and Sanha, but after the sudden death of Moonbin, the subunit was disbanded. Sanha is not only the youngest of his boy band group but is also the youngest(Maknae) of his family with two elder brothers.
