1. The Way Home (2002) 

Directed by Lee Jeong Hyang, this movie is a warm story of a grandson born and living in the city who came to spend time with his grandmother living in a village. This film might make you shed a few tears. The movie about the unconditional love of grandparents is also one of the most well-received movies by South Korean audiences.

 

2. New World (2013)

This crime drama is directed by Park Hoon Jung. The story is about an undercover Officer Ja Sung played by popular actor Lee Jung Jae who infiltrates into the biggest crime group, how he gets conflicted about his role after rising to the top rank in a crime syndicate after working for eight years.

 

3. Miss & Mrs. COP (2019)

This crime comedy series was directed by Jung Da Won. The story is about two women police officers played by Lee Sung Kyung and Ra Mi Ran, who uncover a crime circle that profited from digital sex crimes against women. The movie also pays homage to the South Korean drama Series with the name 'Two Cops.

 

4. The Chase ( 2017)

This South Korean crime thriller is directed by Kim Hong Seon. The story of a cranky landlord who teams up with a former detective to uncover a serial murder case from 30 years ago with a hunch that the suspect has returned after his tenants start disappearing suddenly.

 

5. Welcome To Dongmakgol (2005)

Also known by the name 'Battle Ground 625' is a movie with a story based on the Korean War in 1950, directed by Park Kwang Hyun. The soldiers involved in a war, North Korean, South Korean and an American Pilot find themselves in a remote village. The villagers are largely unaware of the outside world and clueless about the war. The movie was well-received by both critics and audiences.

 

6. Castaway On The Moon (2009)

This movie is a romantic comedy written and directed by Lee Hae Jun. A love story of a suicidal man and a woman obsessed with Cyworld. The man jumps off into the Han River but ends up at the shore of a small nearby island. Meanwhile, the young lady notices him on the island and starts to view him as her special alien.

7. House Of Hummingbird (2018)

Written and directed by Bora Kim, House of Hummingbird is a coming-of-age movie. The film is set in 1994 Seoul.A story about a lonely and awkward teenager who struggles to find a way into the outside world and figure out who she is. The movie deals with both her private and public life. A must-watch female adolescence movie.

 

8. The Good The Bad The Weird ( 2008)

Directed by Kim Jee Won, the film took inspiration from the 1996 Spaghetti Western The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. The South Korean movie is based on the story of three Korean criminals and a bounty hunter who are chased by the Japanese Army and Manchurian Bandits. They compete to get the treasure map in the 1940s Manchuria. The movie is fun and full of action. One you should definitely add to your watchlist.

 

9. Veteran (2015) 

This action-comedy written and directed by Ryoo Seung Wan is one of the highest-grossing South Korean Movies of all time. Starring Hwang Jung Min and Kim Jung Min. The movie revolves around a merciless detective and a pompous third-generation heir to a powerful conglomerate group. The detective finds out the involvement of the rich heir while investigating a high-profile criminal case.

 

10. Peppermint Candy (1999) 

This drama film is directed by Lee Chang-Dong. The movie starts with conveyed suicide of the protagonist and then goes in the reverse chronology of the protagonist's life to 20 years in the past. The man commits suicide by jumping in front of a train, the movie moves in a backward direction from here step by step.
