Korean shows do not show much about religion except for a few references in certain dramas. But there are few dramas where Priests and Shamans (a person who can interact with spirits) play an important role in the story. Check out this list.
1. The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim
One of the youngest shamans on this list, Kim Sae Ron, plays the titular role in this high school drama. She wants to lead a normal teenage life but is bound to become a shaman. Things get complicated when she finds about the spirits in her new school.
2. The Guest
The drama is about people who fight spirits and save victims despite their contrasting ideologies. Kim Jae Wook plays a cold priest who is troubled by his past. His personality is not liked by many but everyone acknowledges his abilities as a priest.
3. The Fiery Priest
Actor Kim Nam Gil plays the titular role in this drama. An action comedy, ‘Fiery Priest’ is about a short-tempered priest who has to investigate the death of his senior priest. How he continues to live without his mentor and fights for justice forms the rest of the story.
4. Island
Set in Jeju Island, the fantasy drama is about an heiress who becomes a target to the monsters that exist there. Cha Eun Woo plays a young priest skilled at exorcism. He helps the possessed and at the same time tries to fight his past.
5. Cafe Minamdang
Seo In Guk plays a fake shaman who cheats people for money. He mesmerizes them with his appearance and acts as a fortune-teller, but at the same time solves their problems. He was once a criminal profiler and his past is a secret.
6. Lovers Of The Red Sky
This historical drama’s story starts with a group of shamans who try to keep away an evil and strong spirit using a painting. Chae Gook Hee plays one of the head shamans who is in charge of many secret rituals in the palace. She values the kingdom more than anything.
7. Hi Bye Mama
Actress Yoon Sa Bong plays a modern Shaman with a kind heart in the drama. Her duty is to send the ghosts to the gates of heaven, so that they can be reborn soon. But her compassionate personality makes her allow the ghosts to stay back and look at their families for some more time.
8. Moon Embracing The Sun
In this popular drama, Han Ga In plays a shaman who was once a crown princess. After an accident before her wedding day, she is presumed to be dead but she only loses her memory. Years later she enters the palace as a Shaman, but will eventually become the queen.
9. Priest
The drama is about a Catholic hospital where priests and doctors work together to help the possessed. Actors Yeon Woo Jin and Park Yong Woo play priests that are a part of a group that secretly performs exorcism. They have a loyal student-tutor relationship.
10. Dark Hole
The drama is about a mysterious gas from a hole that turns people into monsters or zombies. Actor Song Sang Eun plays a shaman in this drama and she maintains a scary personality throughout the drama. She plans to use this situation to punish people who doubt her abilities.
