Korean shows have the best family stories. Over the years Korean dramas are becoming more and more inclusive and are showing the fact that families can be different and imperfect. Here are a few shows that are about parents not by blood but by heart.
1. Our Beloved Summer
Choi Ung’s parents adopted him as a kid and this is not revealed until the second half of the show. Though his parents have showered him with love, he knows the fact that they still haven’t moved on from the loss of their biological child. But, he finally understands their worth.
2. Healer
Chae Young Shin was adopted by her now father from an orphanage. She had been abused as a child and had stopped speaking. Thanks to her adoptive parents she spoke again, became a confident person and started working as a reporter.
3. Suspicious Partner
Noh Ji Wook’s parents were murdered and he was the only one who survived. Until many episodes in the series the fact that Ji Wook was adopted is not revealed. His adoptive mother in none other than his biological mother’s best friend.
4. Mother
This drama focuses on the serious issue of domestic violence. An elementary school teacher discovers that her student is being abused at home and kidnaps her. She decides to adopt the child and take care of her, and hence become a mother.
5. Pinocchio
Choi Dal Po loses his parents and is separated from his brother. Thankfully, he is saved by an old man who treats him like his son. The grandpa gives him this name and makes sure he receives love and affection.
6. Kill Me Heal Me
Oh Ri Jin is adopted by her mother’s best friend. Her new family’s love makes her forget the traumatic experiences she had as a child. We later get to know about the hardships her adoptive mother went through to save her.
7. Lie After Lie
Kang Ji Min is a reporter and a proud father of his daughter Kang Woo Joo. After years of failed pregnancy, he and his wife decide to adopt a child and find Woo Joo. Years later, he discovers that his child’s biological mother was once a prisoner.
8. Solomon's Perjury
Han Ji Hoon met his adoptive father at the police station while he was narrating the truth about the domestic violence against his mother. After developing an unlikely bond with the child, the prosecutor of the case decides to adopt him after a few months.
9. Her Private Life
Ryan Gold’s adoptive parents are not shown in the drama, but viewers can conclude that they gave him a good life. Another character, Nam Eun Gi is not legally adopted but he is taken care of by the female lead’s family and also lived there when he was young.
10. He Is Psychometric
Lee Ahn lost his parents in a fire accident and was left all alone, crying in the streets. Kang Sung Mo becomes Ahn’s adoptive brother. Sung Mo works hard to become a good prosecutor and also takes care of Lee Ahn.
