K-pop idols in the past were not so involved in composing and producing songs. Now we can see an increase in the trend where the members take charge of the creative process and contribute to creating the hit song. Here are ten idol groups who not only write lyrics and melodies but also do the work during the entire process, from the layering of instruments, editing, and mixing to the final version. Some take part in writing the lyrics and melodies and work through the entire process of creating the song with the help of producers, as music production is a tedious job.
1. Pentagon
Pentagon is one of the most talented producing third-generation idol groups, and the leader of the group Hui is a genius songwriter who has written songs for artists and also composed songs for the group. Hit songs like Energetic, Never by Wanna One, and Pentagon songs like Shine, Naughty Boy, etc. All the members of the group are involved in the process of producing music. Kino worked on the track Violet, and all the members played a role in creating the song Round 2.

The group under YG Entertainment is well known for writing lyrics and composing their songs since their debut. Kang Seung Yoon, Song Mino, and Lee Seung Hoon have had a hand in producing the group's hit songs like Really Really. Song Mino has composed songs for many artists like Zico, IKON, and Eun Ji Won. He is considered one of the most talented producers who have copied righted many tracks.
8. Got7
Got7 is a South Korean boy band that initially did not make their music, but they are from the 2016 ‘Flight Log: Departure” EP, and since then, they have started taking more initiative in producing. All the members have taken part in writing their songs and all members have worked on them too. Jay B is the leader who has worked on many tracks for the groups like YOU ARE LOOK, HOME RUN, and PAGE. The group has left JYP Entertainment and announced that they would still make music together.
9. Block B
Zico has made a name for himself as a talented producer who has worked for TV shows like Show Me The Money and Produce X 101. He has worked on the majority of Block B’s tracks and also for many artists like Hyolyn, Crush, and Wanna One. Park Kyung has also participated in the creative process for the group’s music, and he wrote the hit track A Few Years Later. Block B as a group is known for its tough-boy sound and is also a versatile singer.
10. Btob (born To Beat)
BtoB is a South Korean boy band under Cube Entertainment, and they are mostly known for their vocals and ballads. Im Hyun Sik is a well-known composer and lyricist who has written many hit songs like Missing You, Beautiful Pain, and I’ll Be You, Man. He has been a part of the production since his debut with former talented member Ilhoon. The other members also had a hand in writing the lyrics and contributing to the composing.
