Jujutsu Kaisen rarely tries to shy away from death or gore, making it one of the first mainstream anime that did this. The Shonen series reminded the audience that no character is safe and the death toll of characters seems to rise. With each new chapter, many fans are curious to see which heroes will make it out alive. The main characters tend to have an Impactful send-off compared to the supporting characters. Some deaths are brutally gruesome, while some losses are extremely shocking, however, all of them have one thing in common, the aftermath of the death being stuck in everyone’s head.
1. Rika Orimoto
Yuta Okkotsu’s childhood friend, Rika Orimoto, died long before the events of Jujutsu Kaisen o. The prequel, however, fully explores her death by flashing back and referring to it through dialogue many times. Her demise nature may be mundane compared to the more fantastical methods in the series, but it is no less quite shocking. A car hits Rika, and blood starts oozing from her on the floor, making it a horrifying image. Her head is cut off when she appears on the screen, showcasing the brutal nature of her demise.
2. Yuji Itadori
It is quite unusual for any series to kill its main character, and that too in the first ten chapters. Yuji Itadori’s heart is ripped out by Ryomen Sukuna only nine chapters into the series. Sukana was allowed to access Yuji’s body to exorcise a Special Grade Cursed Spirit. Unfortunately, Yuji couldn’t make the switch when the job was done. His death demonstrated how dangerous Sukuna is.
3. Riko Amanai
The focal point of Gojo’s Past arc, Riko Amanai, is a middle school student whom Geto and Gojo are tasked to protect before she merges with Tengen. She had come to grips with the sacrifice she would have to make. She was shot by Toji in the head, ending her life when she just started to discover a reason to go on. Her death was quite devastating and her demise was more brutal using music.
4. Hanami
He wasn’t quite a likeable character given that they were a Disaster Cruse intent on wiping out humanity, but still, his death in the Shibuya Incident hinted hard. After trying to wear Gojo down with Choso and Jogo, he made a fatal misstep and Gojo was able to crush her against a wall and rip out her eyestalks.
5. Toji Fushiguro
He had two pretty brutal deaths but given the second was in his own hands. At the end of Gojo's past arc, a new god tier, Gojo used his Hollow Purple technique to annihilate Tojo’s body into a chunk to get revenge for Riko. The scene was quite brutal, and his death was emotional despite him being a monstrous person.
6. Masamichi Yaga
When Gojo was sealed in the Shibuya Incident, all the sorcerers he had protected in the Jujutsu society, got placed in danger. Yuji was manger to avoid this but Principal Masamichi wasn’t that lucky. He could have saved himself by giving the higher-ups his secret methods to create cursed corpses; he, however, chose to protect it.
7. The Zenin Clan
What makes Maki’s annihilation of the Zenin clan quite brutal is the scope of destruction she wreaks. After Mai ends up sacrificing herself to make Maki stronger, she then gains abilities similar to Toji and uses this power to brutally massacre the remaining members of the Zenin clan. It is the most gruesome in the series, with Maki dismembering people and ripping faces with her sword.
8. Nobara Kugisaki
She was another casualty of Mahito during the Shibuya Incident. Nobara, while chasing down one of his clones, was led back to Mahito’s main body, where he was able to touch her face, which caused her eyes to explode. Her death was so brutal that many fans still deny her death, stating that the series never confirmed it.
9. Kento Nanami
Jogo to take revenge for the death of the Disaster Curse Dragon burned those he believed were responsible and that included Nanami. This doesn’t kill the sorcerer who continues to fight, but Mahito finds and kills him. This death was quite devastating for all those fans who had hope of seeing Nanami alive again after he was burned by Jogo.
10. Satoru Gojo
His death is considered one of the most controversial moments in the series. In many of the chapters, it is seen that he dies and shows a conversation between him and his dead friends, building a sense of dread to reveal that Sakuna cuts him in half and wins the fight. The death of Gojo shook the entire anime world as it was unexpected and caught all the fans off guard.
