Anime Digest

In the past few years, we’ve seen a lot of dramas being made on the topic of artificial intelligence and robots, and this series is no different. It is a science fiction story that emphasises the idea of humans and AIs existing together on a planet. It starts in the future, in the year 2061. It focuses on the idea of saving humans from a human-AI war that might happen in the future, and for that task, the main character, Vivy, is sent to the human world to make everybody happy with her singing.

The Feel-Good Part

The entire series delivers extravagantly amazing animation and music scores. They are enough to make us feel everything the series is trying to portray. The main characters, Vivy and Matsumoto, always have fun things going on whenever they appear together on the screen. There’s also a bit of a womance (an emotional connection between two women) to soothe our hearts in some way.

The Disappointing Factor

The subject on which the series is based is way too cliché and can get boring if one is not into this genre. As it is a short anime, having only 13 episodes, compared to other animes, the story seems a bit rushed and fails to explain numerous things happening throughout, which can put the viewers in a dilemma. There are a lot of foolish things that happen around, but the series gives them a way to take a serious turn, which might seem uncomfortable and disappointing.

In-Depth Analysis

Vivy, an autonomous AI, the first of her kind, is sent 100 years back in the past with the mission of preventing the AI apocalypse that might happen to be the end of humanity. The story starts in 2061. Vivy is said to be just like a regular AI robot who does not have feelings, but as the series progresses, we can feel Vivy blossoming into someone who has a heart and feelings of her own. Her job is to make everyone happy through her singing, and that’s what she does. Music is her passion.

Then there’s another lead character called Matsumoto, who changes his form and shape into a teddy bear or a flying cubicle to stay beside Vivy and guide her. He is a fun character but might seem annoying sometimes. The characters in this series are said to be hit and miss; you either like them or hate them, with nothing in between. Vivy seems like an alright character at first, but as the time passes by and she discovers the concept of her emotions, she turns out to be an amazing character by the end of the series. Vivy has a lot of enemies who are the antagonists of the series. There’s also a concept of Vivy having an alter ego who comes into the scene after the second war happens.

Star Power

Diva who is introduced as the alter ego of Vivy is a strong character. She seems like an antagonist at first but later sacrifices herself for Vivy to return and accomplish her mission.

Overall Opinion

The AIs seem to have an emotional attachment to their missions. They want to keep the human world in its true nature by controlling any excessive growth of the AIs and to not let the war happen. In short, the series is well-packed with melodic BGM, delicately and strongly choreographed action scenes, attractive character designs, and top-notch songs. It’s better to watch this series just for watching sake without diving too deep into it.
