Anime Review: Wonder Egg Priority Special

1

Drama Digest

A 14-year-old girl with heterochromia, has led her to be the subject of oppression. In the past, Ai became bosom friend with koito Nagase, a girl that had newly moved from another high school. In the course of their relationship, the two become very close. However, tragedy ensues when Koito jumps off their school building’s roof and commits suicide. Following koito’s suicide, Ai ends up attending school. As well as finding out why Koito committed suicide, Ai buys marvel eggs to bring her back to life.

 The Feel-Good Part

I love the story, and there’s a whole mystery behind it that keeps me wondering what’s going on. Episodes 1 and 2 have slight spoilers. Though there is some darkness in the story, the overall theme is the MC’s attempt to save herself by helping other friends whom she once “betrayed”. Though the story has dark themes, the overall theme is about the MC’s efforts to save herself while helping others. I like how each character has a background and inner demons, and they aren’t one dimensional or stereotypical. The visuals are also on an anime movie level (the only complaint I have is the 3rd leprechaun, who wields a knife, but it is still pretty good). It was incredible how fluid the animation was even outside of fights (the episode two-fight energy was simply divine). Probably the most remarkable thing about this anime.

The Disappointing Factor

The narrative could have been more profound, and the writing is relatively weak. It would have been helpful if there had been more detail to the actions of the series. There are times when the editing disappoints, and the secondary plots could have been better executed. There could have been more exciting twists in the series to keep its spirit alive.

In-Depth Analysis

In the series, Ai Ohto, a junior high school student whose close friend Koito Nagase committed suicide, is briefly absent from school due to her grief. During a late-night walk, Ai is guided by a mysterious voice to a deserted arcade, where she finds a gachapon machine that dispenses a ‘wonder egg’. A 14-year-old girl is often mistaken for a boy due to her androgynous appearance. She is the niece of Ai’s homeroom teacher Shuichiro Sawaki. A girl named Haruka was once Momoe’s closest friend, who was also the only member of her class to recognize her as a girl and treat her accordingly. But one day, Haruka approached Momoe romantically and appealed to her to touch her. When Momoe declined Haruka’s request, Haruka later committed suicide, leading Momoe to believe that she had been responsible for Haruka’s death. To resurrect Haruka, Momoe is buying wonder eggs.

Star Power

Some acting was good like okay, but some of them just feel not suitable according to script or writers imagination.

Overall Opinion

Overall, it is sweet, it is somewhere bitter, it is nostalgic, and it is profound. The series is watchable.
