Anime Digest

Osananajimi Ga Zettai Ni Makenai Love Comedy is about Sueharu Maru, a 17-year-old high school boy, and his neighbor Kuroha Shida. Kuroha is sure that her childhood friend and neighbor, Sueharu, is in love with her. So, one day, Kuroha decides to confess to Sueharu, but he rejects her.

The Feel-Good Part

Osananajimi Ga Zettai Ni Makenai Love Comedy is a romantic comedy that transcends the typical rom-com trope. With nuanced and well-told subtext, interesting relationship dynamics, absurd humor, and non-verbal storytelling, it’s a unique show for a very niche audience.

The Disappointing Factors

The show though a good parody, does not create a story with enough depth to keep the viewers emotionally engaged. A lot of times, the show becomes a generic rom-com instead of a parody which complicates the overall focus of the show. The characters are made generic and unlikeable for a reason, but the writers failed to generate satire, so instead, the characters end up being forgotten archetypes.

In-Depth Analysis

Osananajimi Ga Zettai Ni Makenai Love Comedy, also known as Osamake: Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won’t Lose, is about Sueharu Maru, a 17-year-old high school boy. Sueharu Maru is a childhood friend of Kuroha Shida, a popular student at Hozumino High School. She is sweet, friendly, and affectionate. She is sure Sueharu is in love with her. However, her dreams are destroyed when Sueharu confesses that he loves Shirokusa Kachi, a beautiful girl who is a school idol, a skilled writer, and a tailor’s model. But when Sueharu discovers that Shirokusa already has a boyfriend, Kuroha suggests that she and get an act of revenge on them together. This whole revenge aspect could’ve turned out to be an exciting concept, but the “Revenge” theme was abandoned pretty soon into the series. The voice acting is excellent, but the animation felt very stiff and jerky. Each of the main characters is fleshed out and given a different purpose/goal outside of romance which was interesting. But along the way, the anime copied the typical harem formula, making it tiring rather than quirky. Its energy did not match the ending.

Star Power

The star power of the show is the voice actors. They almost single-handedly carry the entire show. The idea of creating something new was great but it couldn’t be executed correctly.

Overall Opinion

Overall, Osananajimi Ga Zettai Ni Makenai Love Comedy or Osamake: Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won’t Lose is not a terrible series, but it’s not muchly memorable. The show was fresh, creative, and fun at first. But the writing and production felt flat and couldn’t give it a strong finish. The storyline also failed to create something new or watch-worthy.
