Drama Digest

There is a rumor that if a young girl makes a deal with a white fairy, any wish she wants will be granted. However, she will become a magical girl in exchange and will be made to slay fearsome and ferocious witches. One of these girls is Iroha Tamaki. With a magical crossbow and the healing injuries as her magical ability, Iroha sets forth in labyrinths where witches hide and must defeat them before they can prey on humans. However, with no recollection of what she initially wished for, she finds herself on a sunset train to Kamihama city where “magical girls can be saved.” However, in the city, she must face off against powerful witches, much more potent than the ones she had already faced before. What will she encounter along the way? What was her first wish? What will she find in this city? Watch the anime and find out.

The Feel-Good Part

Aside from the anime adopting its classic message of friendship and power, there is much more to the anime that one can appreciate. There is beautiful animation and an excellent soundtrack that adds to the absolute beauty of the anime.

The Disappointing Factor

If you compare this series to the original Madoka, you will not like itl. There are several ways in which the original is at a much higher standard than the spinoff, and most of these are apparent throughout the show. There is a one-monster per week format that does not have any lasting consequences or stakes in the film. The pacing is not that great. The story is very generic.

In-Depth Analysis

Magia Record tries to capture the nostalgia and memories attached to the original Madoka and, for the most part, fails. Any anime that is a spinoff will be looked at more intensely by audiences, and Magia Record is a perfect example.

Star Power

Our main character in the spinoff is Iroha Tamaki. Iroha Tamaki is played by Momo Asakura. She delivers an excellent performance in the series alongside several other castmates such as Sora Amamiya, Shiina Natsukawa, Yui Ogura, Ayane Sakura, Ai Nonaka, and so many more. Momo Asakura is best known for her roles in The iDOLM@STER Movie: Kagayaki no Mukougawa e!, Fairy Tail, Witch Craft Works, and so many more.

Overall Opinion

Magia Record is a slight disappointment as compared to the original Madoka series. However, there is something that you may come to enjoy if you watch the show.
