Movie Digest

Based on the mobile game, Magatsu Wahrheit, the show follows two men on a journey within the Wahrheit Empire and the events that change their life forever. The Wahrheit empire is technologically advanced, but they are threatened by a catastrophe known as the ‘light.’ In the capital of the Empire, Innumael Grauer, who prepares deliveries to make ends meet, is framed and accused of smuggling an illegal package into the Empire. Meanwhile, his sibling Leocadio is assigned their first mission—to take down the criminal group known as ‘Headkeeper,’ who are suspected of transporting illegal weapons. Innumael is at risk of facing execution for a crime he didn’t commit. But will his sibling be able to get him out of this predicament? Will their lives change forever in this process? Watch the anime and find out.

The Feel-Good Part

There is something very human about this anime. Everything feels real, raw, and intense. The decisions feel life-altering. The characters are in real situations that could drastically affect their lives. There is a lot that can happen in this anime. Moreover, the anime, even though inspired by a game, still feels like a story you can follow no matter what. It is a story worth watching.

The Disappointing Factor

The anime is a slow burn. It starts very slowly and can get a bit boring. However, if you are willing to stick it out for a while, you will be surprised at how surprising, shocking, and mature this anime truly is. There are some ups and a lot of downs. But there is a lot you can get away from with this anime.

In-Depth Analysis

Anime being inspired by video games, especially RPG video games, is not something new. The problem, however, is that people who have played the game may expect a rerun of everything that the video game had to offer regarding storyline and characters. Magatsu Wahrheit: Zuerst does not do that. Instead, it opts for a much more real and intense story based on the video game and the setting.

Star Power

Naoto Hosoda directed the series. He is well known for having several roles in the anime industry, such as directing Shuffle Memories, storyboarding Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, and providing key animation in Tenen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Our two main leads are Innumael and Leocadio, played by Atushi Abe and Aleks Le, respectively. Both are the highlight of the season and deliver a fantastic performance.

Overall Opinion

The show is rather dark, it is not a fun time all around, but it is something you can enjoy.
