Drama Digest

Youth With You Season 3 is a Chinese survival show about male trainees. The top nine chosen by youth producers will make their debuts and form the idol group IXFORM. They will receive votes from the audience for their favorite trainees.

The Feel-Good Part

This season offered a unique and diverse set of trainees. The idea by the production team of spotlighting some pairings and friendship circles with lovely chemistry was excellent. It was simply delightful to watch as the rivalry was rarely in the forefront and more on friendship and cooperation.

The Disappointing Factor

Most of the songs performed by trainees are the songs of mentors. They could have expanded the song list. There was an unequal distribution of screen time among the trainees and their performances.

In-Depth Analysis

Youth With You Season 3 is a variety show, an idol survival program produced by iQiyi in China. The ultimate goal is to launch a nine-member boy group at the end of the program. Only 9 of the 119 trainees who auditioned for the season will make their debut at the end. The mentors are Lisa of Blackpink as the Dance mentor, Li Rong Hao as the Vocal mentor, Wil Pan Wei Bo as the Rap mentor, and Chris Lee as the PD (producer). Esther Yu from THE9 serves as the Youth Tutor. Each mentor showed the trainees respect while showing them they cared about them. They politely spoke while attempting to assist each person individually. The first obstacle they face is meeting with 20 to 30 media representatives instead of the mentors. It gives them the harsh reality of media. The addition of appropriate sound effects, memes, and other visual effects made the show lot more enjoyable. They understood how to maximize the entertainment value of the show. The grand finale, originally scheduled to be streamed live on 8th May 2021, was officially canceled. The termination was due to the involvement in a milk waste scandal, despite the increased efforts to eliminate food waste in the country. The group IXFORM officially debuted on 25th July 2021, two months after the termination, with the top 9 members: Luo Yizhou, Jojo Tang Jiuzhou, Lian Huaiwei, Neil Liu Guanyou, Jerome Deng Xiaoci, Kachine Sun Yinghao, Liu Jun, X Duan Xingxing, and Sun Yihang.

Star Power

Wil Pan was considerate to pull back those less comfortable or experienced with rapping, explaining their roles, and offering advice. Each dance performed by each group had a flaw, which Lisa identified with ease, and suggested solutions. The recording studio served as the setting for Li Rong Hao’s classes. It was amusing and endearing to watch him enter the booth from the control room to assist the students if they had trouble hitting a high note or something similar. Chris Lee was both stern and patient. She knew how far she could push trainees without letting them cross the line because she had reasonable expectations. It was amusing how awkward she was around people.

Overall Opinion

If you enjoy music and survival shows, this is for you. Even though there is no climax and lack a sense of closure, it is still entertaining to watch. Add it to your list!
