Movie Digest

A group of insomniac medical students, Jane, Win, Cin, and Peach, are persuaded to sign up for The Deep, an experimental procedure. This experiment entails inserting a chip and extracting Qratonin, a chemical that is the polar opposite of Melatonin, the body’s sleep medicine. The project requires taking out Qratonin on behalf of the ‘Weimar’ pharmaceutical business. They must find a way out before it’s too late as the experiment spins out of hand.

The Feel-Good Part

The film’s cinematography is non-distracting and even pleasant at times. The directors used incredibly disorienting focus that worked well to put us in the characters’ shoes.

The Disappointing Factor

The film’s confusing storyline, weak performances, and odd pace prevent us from truly engaging with what’s going on. The youthful actors do their best with the cringe-worthy dialogue in the script. But their performances suffered as a result.

In-Depth Analysis

The film follows a group of insomniac medical students who agree to participate in a neuroscience study that demands them to stay up for long periods. They divided the experiment into three levels, each with its repercussions and side effects. The film leans toward a coming-of-age story for teenagers than a thriller or horror film. While the film has suspenseful parts, the main focus is on the teen characters being teens rather than their struggles for survival. There are several stunningly stylized views, including neon-lit settings and fascinating montages. The usual dizzying assortment of blur filters and rotating images intensified the sleep deprivation scenes, while the cast nicely complements these visuals with some great performances. This film has some fascinating ideas at its core that fails to form them in a way that allows for an enjoyable viewing experience. The filmmakers certainly had a story in mind, but the overly intricate plot and strange character decisions harmed the quality of the film.

Star Power

Panisara Rikulsurakan as Jane and Kay Lertsittichai as Win deliver the film’s top performances. Both gave the most engaging performances in the movie, and they expertly portray the characters’ mental and physical exhaustion.

Overall Opinion

When it comes to the mystery and thriller genre, it is not the best but decent enough to watch.
