Movie Digest

The medium is about a documentary crew documenting the daily life of a local medium, Nim, who is possessed by the spirit of a deity, whom the villagers worship, known as Bayan. This deity has been possessing the women of Nim’s family for generations.

The crew finds some unusual behavior in Ming, Nim’s niece. They start following her around. Nim thinks that their ancient deity is possessing Ming now.

But what they think is the gods’ spirit might be a different spirit.

The Feel-Good Part

It is a horror film; It is not supposed to feel good. The movie gives you all the creeps a horror movie is supposed to give, and you will be horrified for the next three days.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie was lengthy. The movie started feeling draggy at some point. it would have been better if some scenes were cut short.

In-Depth Analysis

The Medium is a horror movie shot like a documentary, so some of the scenes are also in footage style. The main character is a shaman, Nim. The crew has been following her and interviewing her on various things. Nim is possessed by a local deity spirit, Bayan, who guides her. Nim’s sister Noi was supposed to inherit this gift, but she wanted nothing to do with it and tuns into Christianity to avoid it. the spirit then moved into Nim and has been with her ever since.

But the family, friends, and the crew notice some behavioral changes in Noi’s daughter, Mink, and the crew starts documenting her. Nim thinks that the deity is possessing Mink, but then she starts acting strange, with aggressive behavior and a different personality.

Nim becomes certain that the spirit possessing Mink is not the deity but some different spirit/s.

Star Power

Sawanee Utoomma is a natural. The shaman role she played is outstanding. All the other actors were also so unique that it actually felt like a documentary.

Overall Opinion

The creepiest horror film in a while. The movie has everything you want in a horror movie. But you have to see the trigger warning before watching it. There are some very alarming scenes.
