Movie Digest

A miserable young woman discovers a mystical book that grants her the ability to make each man she meets fall in love with her.

The Feel-Good Part

This is a charming little picture with an intriguing plot. It’s a pleasant, gratifying climax to a feel-good story that can be heartbreaking at times. You’ll like the coffee shop pals and AnNa, who isn’t your normal “other woman.” I’m sick of witnessing the horrible, deceitful lady attempting to destroy a relationship. It has just enough fluff and melancholy to move people’s hearts.

Disappointing Factor

The plot was satisfactory. It seems as if the writers got an idea and just went with it, not thinking about how it would fit into a three-part plot arc. It all came together to be a little underwhelming. There’s the possibility of dealing with serious topics, but as this is a light, breezy romance, don’t hold your breath. Even on a romantic level, there could have been more moments to make you believe in the two leads’ relationship possibilities.

In-Depth Analysis

So far, Jung’s life has been very terrible. Her mother is beset by misfortune, and it appears that all she tries to accomplish fails. So Jung works in a coffee shop run by Seung Jae, who is dashing yet cautious and secretive. A mystery woman comes into the shop one rainy night and loans So Jung an odd book called “Are You in Love.” It turns out to be an extraordinary – almost magical – book! She asks the book a query about her love life one day, and the book responds with an “answer” that mysteriously transforms her life. She becomes the talk of the town all of a sudden. Every man she encounters develops feelings for her. Seung Jae, for example, sheds his cool façade to reveal his heart to her. Is it possible for So Jung to use the book’s power to discover true love? And, against the odds, could the transformed Seung Jae win her heart?

Star Power

So Jung, played by Kim So Eun, was cute but a hot mess. The actors are lovely folks attempting to depict a typical marriage, and they do a decent job. Sung Hoon is great as always, but the story didn’t allow him much to do this time. This applies to the cast and crew as well.

Overall Opinion

It’s just a typical film that might be relaxing to watch if you have the hour and aren’t looking for a masterpiece. This is a charming little picture with an intriguing plot. It’s a pleasant, gratifying finale to a feel-good story that is at times heartbreaking.
