Movie Digest

22-year-old Horigai Sayo is about to graduate from her university. She works for a child protection center and is considered a bit strange because she is surrounded by child abuse and violence. But she doesn’t care about what others think about her. And even though whatever it is, she is working for the welfare of the children. She meets Inogi Kusuko as they both go to the same university, and as Inogi Kusuko had a traumatic past, they both bond on a different level, sharing their painful experiences. But one day, Sayo’s life comes to a halt when her friend, Suiho Nao, commits suicide.

The Feel-Good Part

The whole movie has a melancholy feel to itself. It has a realistic feel to it and a different perspective when it shows the world through the eyes of a college student. The movie can be considered monotone, but that is the crux of the movie because not everybody’s life is flashy and colorful, how it is shown in some movies and drams. Some are coping with their traumatizing past, and some are dealing with many difficult things in their present. The story has its way of making the movie absorbing and engrossing.

The Disappointing Factor

The movie is a bit slow-paced. It is understandable that every plot needed its time to settle in the viewers’ minds and grow, but it still seemed a bit slow.

In-Depth Analysis

You Are Forever Younger Than Them is a story about a 22-year-old university student, Horigai Sayo, and 21-year-old Inogi Kusuko, who is also in the same university as Sayo, a year younger than her. They both are living their lives, sharing their stories with each other and bonding through pain. The full course of the film contains a heartwarming and touching plot. The movie contains twists and turns but keeps in mind the monotone feeling of the film, it never feels too much or too little, just the right amount. It powerfully conveys a sense of independence and individual expression. Horigai Sayo and Inogi Kusuko both have been through a lot and are still going through it all, but they never give up. They live their lives, sharing things with each other, sharing their minds, and they don’t care about what others have to say, because society always has something to say and if we wait and listen to them and follow their standards, we can’t live peacefully. The movie tells what a person’s true identity is and how it makes them distinctive in society.

Star Power

The star cast is excellent for the movie. Yui Sakuma and Nao were the best choices for the film. It doesn’t matter if the storyline of the movie is good or not if the cast is not good. Here, both the actresses did more than an outstanding job to make the movie more realistic. There are not a lot of supporting roles in the movie, but they all did an amazing job.

Overall Opinion

Overall, the movie is very good, bringing something refreshing and new. It is solely focused on individuality and independence and is worth giving a try.
