The movie is built on the promise that one man makes to his ex-girlfriend, who is widowed and has a daughter, to take care of her daughter. He decides to struggle and get through in order to keep his promise.
The Feel-Good Part
The movie deeply explores the relationships between different people, like that of Xu Er Gua and his girlfriend. And also with the other people around him. It also explores the different types and levels of relationships. Xu Er Gua and his ex-girlfriend had known each other in the past as they used to be a couple. Later, they develop feelings for each other and build a deep connection. However, their relationship can not be explained. They are unable to describe the relationship between them because they are at that point in life and can only express it through the emotions and feelings they have, and that makes this an emotional and heart touching movie.
The Disappointing Factor
The disappointing factor of this movie is the fact that Xu Er Gua has to go through so many struggles and we can relate to them on some levels, which makes it difficult to bear to watch. Also, at moments, the movie appears to be losing its pace, which may make it difficult to continue watching till the end.
In-Depth Analysis
After many years, Xu Er Gua develops a relationship with his ex-girlfriend. She is now a widow and takes care of her adopted daughter. The happiness they experience is short-lived when his ex-girlfriend dies in a vehicle accident shortly after. Before she passed away, Xu Er Gua made a promise to her that he would look after her teenage daughter and promised to take care of her daughter. And he maintains his word so much so that, even after being defrauded of his beloved’s inheritance, he decides to pose as a junk collector in order to get money for the education of his foster daughter.
Star Power
The cast includes Feng Yuanzheng, Yu Feifei, Li Bin, and Lei Kesheng. The cast does an amazing job of making sure the audience experiences a different range of emotions, and they deliver them wonderfully. However, the story falls short of expectations and lacks pace at times, which hinders the actors from showcasing their true potential.
Overall Opinion
The movie can be taken up if you are interested in watching it till the end and have some time to spare. Also, this movie could be skipped because it requires you to invest your attention and emotions in it.
