Movie Digest

Falling under the lively genres of comedy, drama, and friendship, the movie Sunny Sisters is a must-watch if you want to dive into reminiscing about your prime of life – teenage years. The story revolves around seven female people who befriended each other and formed “Sunny Sisters”. Everything seems limitless in the high school years, the world becoming everyone’s oyster. These seven people stay strong together and dream of a joyful future with a head full of spirits. Released on the 11th of June 2021, it is a remake of a Korean movie called Sunny (2011).

The Feel Good Part

Directed by Bao Bei Er, the movie artfully explores the dynamics of a female friendship that is quite rare to witness in any film. It shed light on the everyday struggles of an adult, helping us realise that the years we spent in high school are precious after all. Moreover, the plot is female-centred, making it quite refreshing for an avid drama consumer. If you feel more invested in a movie by gauging its soundtrack, then we recommend tuning into this masterpiece 很高兴认识你 (Nice To Meet You)by Twins. The song exudes the gentleness of youthful days, injecting hope into our present harsh circumstances.

The Disappointing Factor

Although a plain factor, fans wish they received a sixteen-episode long drama on the characters and their lives instead of a two-hour-long movie.

In-Depth Analysis

The plot opens when Zhang Lijun, working as a full-time homemaker, runs into her closest friend Lin Qing back from her high school days. After a talk, when Zhang Lijun learns about her friend’s terminal illness, they think back on their nostalgic teenage days and dreams. They decide to gather their shoved-back “Sunny Sister” and bring all the remaining members on board. Upon meeting, they share each other’s struggles, be it career-related or domestic issues or the grim attitude of the present world.

Star Power

The cast consists of talented actors who do not fail to bring their roles to life. It stars Yin Tao as Zhang Li Jun, Zeng Li as Lin Qing, Zhang Xin Yi as Huang Xiao Juan, Ma Su as Yang Mei, Ni Hong Jie as Qiu Yu Hong, and Jiang Xiao Han as Zhu Zhu.

Overall Opinion

If you are looking for a light-hearted two-hour long movie that relates to the existing problems in your life, then you must not skip past this beautiful delight. We would rate this movie 3 out of 5 for the message it brings to its viewers.
