The day is done is a wonderful Chinese short film directed by Zhang Dalei starring Weiyi Kong, Chen Zhang, Yanyun Guo, Hua Zhao Mengfu Hoa and Xuejian Li. It is a relaxing feel-good movie. It is Dalei’s come-back after his biographically inspired story ‘summer is gone’.It is a story of the reunion of a family with their grandfather. Together, they cook lunch, set table and eat happily. His grandson is going to study far away, in Russia. While one of them dozes off by drinking, the other went through an old album. The good-old memories. But this is all temporary. They have to move on. His grandson has to leave him. This is life. This short film depicts a clear picture of real life. It is heart-touching seeing watermelon kept uneaten. It represents the grandfather. Dalei is trying to convey how much lonely is the grandfather and how much he misses the kids. But he never complained. Because he was aware that this is life. Nobody stays with us forever. This short film contains beautiful songs that are mind-blowing. Grandfather is a representation of every person in society who misses their family.

The day is done is an excellent feel-good movie. It shows the strong bond of a family. The difficulty of leaving a beloved one. It portrays a clear picture of the pain of leaving. A grandfather’s love is priceless. Nice and amazing storyline.

In-Depth Analysis
Xiao Lei is the main character of the story. Along with his parents and his uncle, he visits his grandmother. They are coming from Mongolia to China. The conversation between them during the car ride is one of the best scenes. They shared a lot of things. They talked about their experiences, about the day his uncle got drunk and how he lied on the floor. This conversation shows their family relationship and their catching up on the events. The camera passes from one person to another, we can notice that each person was doing something. One was humming a song, one was glazing through the window, while two were chatting. This happens in every family, hence audience can connect. When they reached their homeland, they start to recognize various people. This scene says about their good relationship with the people. Grandfather’s place is a beautiful home, where they talked, shared and enjoyed. Always something was going on. The pain of leaving. They shared wonderful moments with their grandfather. Soothing background music makes the scene more perfect and touching. It is an amazing short film with a realistic theme, which the audience can directly connect.

Weiyi Kong, Chen Zhang, Yanyun Guo, Hua Zhao Mengfu Hoa and Xuejian Li played well for the perfect direction of Dalei. It is certain that background team worked behind the film is wonderful. They did great.

One of the best short films. Director did his best and actors contributed maximum. Nice story with amazing team. It will never disappoint the viewers.
