Drama Digest

Toong Sanaeha is a Thai drama adapted from the novel of the same title.

This story is about the forbidden love of Paitoon and Yupin. The story takes place in a small Thai town in the 70s. Yupin and Paitoon loved each other. They were planning on getting married, but due to Yupin’s poor status, Paitoon’s mother doesn’t like her. So, she tries to force Yupin to marry Praiwan, Paitoon’s brother, while Paitoon is at the temple. Yupin agreed to marry Praiwan because of his father’s gambling debts.

Can Yupin and Paitoon overcome every obstacle and get back together?

The Feel Good Part

The concept of this show is refreshing. There are times when you can feel the pain of separation between Paitoon and Yupin. They just wanted to get married and be in love. It was sad when they gave each other those long, pitiful stares at one another without talking or only a little talking.

 Disappointing Factors

There is no chemistry between Paitoon and Yupin. The acting could’ve been better, and the execution fell short. The ending was not what It was expected to be. The story gets messy and dramatic. It gets dull after a few episodes.

In-Depth Analysis

Yupin becomes Paitoon’s sister-in-law after marrying Paitoon’s brother, who has suffered from polio since childhood. This plan was to separate Yupin and Paitoon, but Paitoon was not going to readily abandon their love. But the goal was to have Yupin as a sister-in-law to Paitoon, so at least they couldn’t get back together if Yupin and Praiwan ever separated. The content was excellent, but the execution was not good. There have been some plots that could’ve had some peak moments, but everything fell flat. It’s fair to blame the production for failing to control the pace of the storyline, and just the execution of the plot is bland.

Star Power

Jaron Sorat in the role of Paitoon and Jarinporn Joonkiat in the role of Yupin were the main protagonists in the story. The acting was not that good or bad. But the actors could have done a better job at it. The general performance of all the actors was good.

Overall Opinion

Toong Sanaeha is a messy family drama. It’s one of those stories where, no matter how much you don’t like it, you want to see how it ends.
