The Feel-good part

This drama is closest to historical possibilities. It carefully laid out the events. The drama managed to show cruelty justifiably. The logic made sense and tied all the events well. The soundtracks were beautiful.

The disappointing factor

Many scenes were skipped due to the length of the show. So you may have difficulty catching the story. Despite the horrendous editing, that drama was enjoyable for its authenticity. Editing has a few shortcomings.

In-depth analysis

As compared to other Ming Dynasty dramas, this one has fewer fictionalized events though some historical were watered down to make the characters appealing. Other characters were dramatized for dramatic effects. Zhu Di was the fourth son of Zhu Yuan Zhang. His eldest brother, Zhu Biao, was the crown prince, and he was designated to the throne. Zhu Yuan Zhang and his wife were humble peasants. Their household dynamics looked like other common families. The Zhu household lived in harmony. Like other palace drama, it was very refreshing to watch the parental and sibling relationships. Thai drama showed that palace life could be more straightforward and happier. Cheng Yi gets a pleasede and deviant role as a prince. His acting was convincing. Many scenes were skipped due to the length of the show. There was not any usual catfight in a palace story. Some scenes were boring, but a few details were funny, and humorous. The battle scene was well-made.

Star power

Every cast member nailed their roles. Almost everyone was near perfect. The minor characters also did great as they were. The whole cast was commendable.

Overall opinion

It was a great funny and emotional drama. This drama didn’t include typical palace scenes. It is a great historical drama to watch. The story had a nice flow; it didn’t feel draggy. The drama was less on romance and more on history.
