Drama Digest

A story about a stranger who walks into the same room unnoticed. How might the narrative of two boys end up falling in love unintentionally? Roommate is a Thai black-and-white serial about two university students who are forced to share a room. The protagonist is used to living alone, but his mother and best friend have arranged for their sons to share a home. These unexpected housemates will have to adapt their lifestyles and deal with each other’s vastly different personalities.

The Feel-Good Part

First and foremost, why would they call this a special episode when it is essentially a continuation of episode 4? It would make more sense to just put it together with the rest of the show, but then again, suppose that is a way to gain more publicity, which is understandable but quite dumb. It falls short on so many levels, which is quite sad because many like the actors for this show and hope to see them in BL again in the future. Anyway, this special episode was good enough to cover all mistakes. Roommate has a fairly strong start for a low-budget production and displays a realistic relationship between the stars. As their BL connection progresses smoothly in the early episodes, the characters enjoy a joyful, vivid dynamic. Unfortunately, the series loses steam at the conclusion and takes a terrible turn. The second half’s mismanaged plot is quite frustrating.

The Disappointing Factor

If you’ve been watching the rest of the series (which you should, because you’re reading a review for the special episode), you’ll notice that the relationship between the two major characters is at best murky by the conclusion. The regular series’ final episode ended on a cliffhanger, which would have been odd if this episode hadn’t been prepared. This episode gives more explanation to the beach vacation and reintroduces some of the series’ other characters.
