Drama Digest

Muey is a bright and talented woman living with her crush for the past seven years. Over time, her crush on her roommate Thein turns into love, but his perception of her never changes. He still sees her as someone to tease and bully. Thein is wealthy, good-looking, and hard-working; the only problem is that he is a bit of a player. Things start to go array when he sleeps with a dangerous mobster’s wife. To protect him, his mother forces Muey to marry him, and she only agrees to protect him. She sees this as a chance to get closer to him, while he wants to keep the entire relationship a secret. Is love in the books for them in a messy situation like this one?

The Feel-Good Part

The chemistry between the main leads is excellent, and easy to root from the beginning. While the male lead is cold and uncaring, it is clear that he has a soft spot for the female lead. She compliments his character by being caring, warm, and optimistic, a great dynamic to see on-screen. The drama is quite addictive as it keeps the audience on their toes with a push-and-pull situation, which is fun to witness. The series is engaging for the most part, as the story takes many twists and turns. The music used in the show as well as OSTs, were incredibly well-made as they fit the tone of the show perfectly. The development that the individual characters go through is quite admirable because in shows like this, character growth usually takes a backseat as romance takes center stage in shows like these. It is refreshing to watch individual stories getting as much importance as the romance.

The Disappointing Factor

The show romanticizes toxic behavior in relationships, which gets uncomfortable to watch at times. While the leads have great chemistry, it is still very difficult to see them showcasing borderline abusive behaviour. The editing is exceptionally sloppy done as there is no proper scene transition, which makes the show look visually unattractive, which gets distracting quite quickly. The show drags in multiple places as some conflict subplots are uninteresting and unnecessary.

In-Depth Analysis

The drama is nothing new nor is it trying to be more than it can deliver. It is a very simple story with twists and turns executed through the lens of a clichéd romance. The execution is lacking in several places but the core of the plot is still delivered upon very well, despite the flaws. The series could have benefited from being shorter as it would have cut down on the unnecessary subplots. Some jokes and the glorifying toxic behavior could have been avoided to make the show a better viewing experience for all viewers.

Star Power

All the performances were excellent. The cast delivers their respective characters with nuance, which makes the audience connect with the characters well. The actors who play the leads do an incredible job of convincing the audience that they are the character they play on-screen because of how great their acting performances were. The chemistry between the characters is quite easily the highlight of the show.

Overall Opinion

My Husband in Law is a series for people who enjoy clichéd romance that can be over the top at times.
