Drama Digest

‘Recipe for Happiness is a Korean television film that revolves around the daily hiccups in the life of a simple-minded young man Jin Soo, who, after constant attempts, finally manages to become a civil servant. His friends often tease him for being unambitious and satisfied with his humble life. On the other hand, Jin-Soo never yielded to what people said and always found ways to make him happy and contented. Jin Soo is in love with his college friend Jung Soo, but she is not interested in the idea of marriage and having children. Jin Soo’s father disapproves of Jung Soo, but that doesn’t stop Jin-Soo from trying to win over her. Things fall apart when Jin-Soo eventually learns of the death of his old friend and that Jung Soo is soon going abroad for her prospects.

The Feel-Good Part

The plot wonderfully captures a young man’s life in today’s world who tries to make him okay with the stressful life he confronts daily. It offers some cathartic, lighthearted glimpses of people’s lives in today’s world of stress and competition. We can see ourselves in the main characters. The main cast has excellently captured the characters’ true essence, making the plot natural, penetrating, and highly moving. Each character seems familiar to us, and the diverse vignettes in the film are, in fact, living stories that ache our hearts.

The Disappointing Part

The movie is genuinely moving, but the ending could have been more convincing. The movie also fails to appeal to audiences, especially those who like fast-moving thrillers and suspense movies. There are moments when the film lacks background sounds like the scenes in the restaurants. Could have included some exciting plots in the film.
