Drama Digest

Kang Tae Joo and Shin Hae Won were inseparable from childhood. They were best friends who shared an obsessive love for baseball and spent most of their time absorbed in the game. As best friends do, the two thought they would be together forever. Unfortunately, life had other plans for them. Tae Joo’s parents tell him that they are moving to the United States, so he has no choice but to say goodbye to his childhood friend. Tae Joo then promises himself that he will see Hae Won again.

After many years, Tae Joo returns to Korea and wastes no time searching for his best friend. When he tracks Hae Won down, he realizes that his friend now identifies as a high school girl! See the drama to find out if this change affects their relationships and what their reactions are.

The series was adapted from the Webtoon of the same name.

The Feed-Good Part

The story is sweet, simple, and easy-going, and there is not a heavy focus on the dramatic aspect which would make it a lovely drama to view. The production, acting, and music were very appropriate and added to the movie. It was like a typical gender-bender drama. It is also not time-consuming as compared to other shows.

The Disappointing Factor

The narrative could have focused more on the aspect of transitioning your gender. It almost feels slightly insensitive as it only uses the gender transition as a plot point and paints it as something negative but does not give it appropriate focus to address it with caution and understanding.

At the same time, the drama seems too short to address these concerns. They could have made it longer or explained it much better in more detail.

In-Depth Analysis

The story is very predictable as one would know and expect what the characters will do as their motives are clear. It is not very different from other dramas of the same genre. It shows the surface-level changes around transitioning your gender. The series could also have gone in more depth by having more episodes or focusing on making a movie if there were no plans to go in-depth in the plot.

Star Power

Shin Hyun Seung and Lee Soo Min are the leads. The supporting cast also has idols like Yeo One from Pentagon and Yujin from CLC/Kep1er, which would attract fans of K-POP to this drama. All the actors have played their parts well. The leading actors have perfect chemistry and genuinely look like they have been best friends for years. The supporting cast also adds to the performance.

Overall Opinion

It is a sweet drama that flows as expected. It starts like a sports drama, but the focus on baseball fades away as the episodes progress and only returns at the ending. It was a charming drama that will tug on your heartstrings and is an easy watch as the episodes are only 20 minutes long.
