Drama Digest

“Poong The Joseon Psychiatrist” is a South Korean television series based on a novel of the same name. The novel won the excellence award in the 2016 Korea story contest. It revolves around the stories of psychiatrists present in Joseon. The protagonist Yoo Se Poong is a physician for the royal family. He fell victim to a conspiracy and was expelled afterward. Later, he meets a widow Seo Eun Woo, and a teacher named Kye Ji Han in Gyesu village. He is now living a peaceful life as a doctor whose only aim is to heal people and spread happiness.

The Feel-Good Part

The show has a satisfaction that provides immense visual pleasure in the historical display. The show was called a healing show as it’s okay sister previous traumas of all the cast members and shows the growth with it. It takes the viewers along on their journey. The doctors and screenwriters performed well in making it a healing drama and showing the process. The story is smooth and perfect for a mood boost and as a break in between watching complex shows.

The Disappointing Factor

The show is smooth and easygoing, but the romance factor was underdeveloped. They could have added more of it in 12 episodes. It also dragged for a few scenes. It was pleasant but did not have any elements that left the viewers in anticipation. The detective-like storyline and the unraveling of cases did not fit the show overall.

In-Depth Analysis

Yoo Se Poong was a well-known physician with remarkable abilities in the Royal Palace. But she got involved in a conspiracy against the royal family and was expelled from his position. Philips the palace and moves to a beautiful village named Gyesu. There, he lives a simple life as a doctor. He meets Kye Ji Han, the grumpy old doctor of the Sorak village with a golden heart. He is interested in teaching you to spoon and transforming him into a hearty doctor. He meets another resident from the village called Seo Eun woo, an empathic and keen lady, who also has a noble background. She is a widow and aids those with heartbreak.

Star Power

The cast perform their roles well, although Kim Min Jae and Kim Hyang Gi did not do it to their full potential. Their skills need perfection and they are not fit to be cast as the lead yet. But having a bigger fan base, these two actors attracted the most viewers for the show. The side characters acting were decent.

Overall Opinion

Overall, it is a smooth show, with decent actors that do not need significant attention. It is worth watching for the stunning visuals that portray the historical era. The soft color grading and the scenery, which included fields and single trees, were a dream come true.
