Drama Digest

“Cold Game” is a Japanese survival drama released in 2021. The story is set in a fictional era where Earth has become an ice age of -45°C. Kimura Shoko is the genius artist depicted in the story. The evaporation Center holds some survivors who escaped from various disasters. But the facility prioritizes families first. So, entering the facility, Shoko along with Daiki, Hina, and Takashi act as a family called the “Kimura family” to survive the environment.

The Feel-Good Part

The characters of the show are likable. The show has emotional moments as it describes the survival of humans in an adverse situation.

The Disappointing Factor

The significant drawback of the show is the spectacle of the poster, which has restrained the viewers from watching it. The low budget for the show made the visuals look cheap. The specific background for the show has no logic and does not provide any information about how eight billion human beings disappeared simply without leaving an impression.

In-Depth Analysis

In an age where people are struggling to survive, the show narrates the story of the earth. At that age, money, status, and everything else lost meaning, and civilization collapsed. People are seeking every blanket and can of food that is left, and human values have changed drastically. Humans face such an extreme situation where only those with a strong desire for life will survive. Kimura Shoko is a genius con artist. She has previous criminal convictions and is now determined to take every possible means to survive in this world. As the shelter she arrives at gives more importance to families, she gathers three other people and acted like a family. She became the mother of a masquerade family. But more than her desire to survive, she desired to see her son again.

Star Power

The cast did an outstanding performance. Hada Michiko had a charming character. The support roles were played by Yuki Kosei, Kumada Rinka, Aiki Yasuhide, Nakamura Shunsu, and Tsubaki Oniyakko.

Overall Opinion

The show does not have a good base or provide information logical enough to consider the present-day situation that the story shows. It is an underrated and low-budget drama and not worth the time.
