Drama Digest

Seo Ji-Sung (Song Ha-Yoon) works for the AI home appliance development team as a programmer. By happenstance, she develops the AI refrigerator “Josangshin,” which can detect dangerous men. She uses the AI refrigerator to help women in her community who are in terrible romantic relationships with scumbag men. Jung Kook-Hee, a firefighter, becomes involved with Seo Ji-Sung (Lee Jun-Young).

The Feel-Good Part

The male protagonist is the good guy since he is not linked to the internet, allowing him to question things from a distance. It also illustrates all of the subtle injustices that women can encounter in everyday life, such as not being adequately appreciated for their efforts. There have been several shows labelled as “RomCom” over the years, with very few deserving of the title. “Please Don’t Date Him” is one of the few exceptions, as it generates genuine laughs in each episode while also developing the characters’ romantic relationship.

The Disappointing Factor

It’s about the influence of new technologies and personal data collecting from the perspective of a woman, and how sexism and girl-shaming can spread through those technologies, despite the fact that they’re intended to represent progress in our society. And also precisely how new technologies can effect negatively our daily existence.

In-Depth Analysis

Seo Ji Seong works on the A.I. Development Team at Smart Home Appliances. While working on a refrigerator, she accidently inserts a National Intelligence Service chip. Instead of a programme that rates the quality of veggies, it will weed out the undesirables from a dating pool, potentially saving individuals heartache. Seo Ji Seong herself wishes to fall in love, but only with the right man. Despair creeps in when her software concludes that her oh-so-perfect fiancé, Jeong Han, is not, after all, her Prince Charming! She meets Jung Gook Hee, a firefighter with no social media presence. This leaves Ji Seong with no data to analyse with her algorithm. She can’t help but be dubious, given her lack of knowledge of Gook Hee’s past. Should Ji Seong take a chance on him, even if it means more loss for her?

Star Power

It’s not your standard rom-com because it contains some suspense, but it’s not a thriller. It’s only a 10-episode drama, so it won’t take long to finish, and it’s absolutely worth watching if you want to try something new. The literary device employed for the plot was appropriately used and was not simply a literary device that was ignored after the story was put up. When this was revealed, expected the show to become more serious and go from being a romcom to a serious drama, but the writer(s) stayed true and kept it on the sidelines while still being an important part of the story.

Overall Opinion

This show is recommended if you’re seeking for a series that will make you laugh, fall in love all over again, and respect the people around you, even strangers like our courageous firefighters. There are a few tearjerkers here and there, but there are also a lot of thrilling and exciting situations that kept me excited for each episode. If you like serious or darker dramas, this is not the one for you. This drama is too light, but it is entertaining to watch. It’s both amusing and endearing.
