Drama Digest

Jang Bong Hwan is a modern chef who ascended through the ranks to prepare meals for the country’s most powerful officials at the presidential residences, including the Blue House. He wakes up in the body of a young queen from the Jonseon era, Kim Soyoung, after an accident. While she is the monarch, her husband, King Cheol Jong, is merely the monarch in name. Queen Sunwon, the late King Sunjo’s wife, takes advantage of King Cheol’s kindness. Her own brother, Kim Jwa Guem, is a competitor who is equally as ambitious. Queen Soyoung discovers that her husband isn’t as innocent as she had assumed and that he harbours secrets.

The Feel-Good Part

With its blend of modern elements, fantasy, and romantic comedy, this historical drama proved entertaining to see. As the queen, the female lead’s persona was unconventional and largely carried the show with her frequent shenanigans and wit. The plot is interesting and well-paced. There was nothing that felt like filler, and everything that was displayed seemed to serve a purpose. The writers should be commended for their hard work on the script.

The Disappointing Factor

The finale is bittersweet. When Jang Bong Hwan awoke after his accident, however, he was no longer as significant. He evidently spent a lot of time with the other characters while he entered Queen Soyoung’s body, and he clearly felt something for King Cheol Jong, but his character moved on as if nothing had ever occurred. The audience had no time to understand what had happened and was dissatisfied with that one part. He seemed to fade into the background of his own story.

In-Depth Analysis

Mr. Queen was amusing, enraged, and empathic all at the same time. It was fascinating to watch Bong Hwan adjust to his new surroundings, learning about the body he was trapped in as well as the people around him. It was a comedy at heart, despite being harsh and nerve-wracking to the end. Despite the fact that it was a heated discussion, there was laughter in some sections, and the storytelling was excellent.

Star Power

Shin Hye Sun produced an excellent performance as Kim So Yong / Jang Bong Hwan. She managed to be both subtle and over the top at the same time. Kim Jung Hyun as Kim Cheol Jong was superb in the emotional sequences and brought off the naïve yet pervy behaviour wonderfully.

Overall Opinion

It is definitely worth a watch especially if you’re big on comedy fantasy dramas.
