Drama Digest
Jiang Mosheng and Lu Yuanzhi are brothers adopted by Master Su Jingan of Sancai house but became rivals because Jiang Mosheng joins Master Bai Henian of Sihe House who is Master Su Jingan’s former fellow apprentice and now turned rival.
Lu Yuanzhi disagrees with his teacher, leaves Beiping, and goes to Shanghai. He works hard as a designer there and earns a name for himself. But when war erupts in Beiping he goes back there. He promises to never make a single cheongsam for the enemies and works diligently to become one of China’s greatest designers.
The Feel-Good Part
The drama direction and production are good. It gives you a vintage vibe while watching the drama and it feels like the drama was shot in that era.
As the drama focuses on the fashion designing aspect, you’ll get to see a lot of beautiful clothes which are just pleasing to the eyes, and if you are interested in the whole fashion designing thing, then the whole aura of the drama feels double amazing.
The Disappointing Factor
There are many plot holes in the drama. The concept of the show is good and unique but it is not well written. Many things are unexplained and some disturbing issues are not addressed. It could’ve been a great show if there were little less of those family schemes and unwanted misunderstandings which took 5 or more episodes to be solved.
In-Depth Analysis
The Master of Cheongsam is a historical Chinese drama that apparently has three eras, the Qing Dynasty era, the Republican era, and the Japanese wartime era which is basically shown by the changing design of the cheongsam, the traditional Chinese costume, and the whole drama revolves around this costume because the main lead is a cheongsam designer.
The story revolves around Lu Yuanzhi, Kang Ning, Jiang Mo Sheng, and Zhao Li Jun. Lu Yuanzhi and Jiang Mo Sheng are brothers turned rivals. Kang Ning is the love interest of Lu Yuanzhi. The story brings something new and unique with good cinematography and production. The costumes and set were very beautiful.
Star Power
The star cast brings out good acting. Manny roles are played by veteran actors and they know what they are doing.
Overall Opinion
Overall, the drama’s concept is intriguing and the plot is engaging. Has a good amount of romance also. Good for a one-time watch.
