Drama Digest
The story follows a famous chef, Kim Yoon Cheol and his wife, Shim Jae Kyung as they navigate various dangers and obstacles that come their way. Kim Yoon Cheol is the owner of a famous Italian restaurant who starts an affair with Jin Sun Mi, a very attractive staff member at his restaurant. Bored of his marriage and unhappy about his wife, he confides his frustration in Jin Sun Mi during one of their rendezvous. Together, the two lovers plot the murder of his wife using poison but before they could carry it out, Shim Jae Kyung goes missing.
Kim Yoon Cheol learns she is kidnapped and his old love for her resurfaces. He vows to find his wife no matter the cost, unaware of how deep her secrets run. So, does he finally find his wife? The Feel-Good Part
The subtext underneath the mysterious storyline is that of what marriage is in Korean Society. The psychological twists and turns as well as the cliffhangers in the series do a good job of keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. The scenes are well designed with small details so the audience can pick up and piece together as the series unfolds. The series does a good job of mixing mystery with crime so as to create a well-balanced blend of a thriller without being too overtly mysterious or overtly simple- the answers can be pieced together by one who can pick up the clues.
The Disappointing Factor
Despite the thrill and the mystery, the story becomes a little bit too complicated in order to span over 16 episodes. While it is entertaining, it becomes often tedious for the audience to keep up with the pace and the plot twists and the mystery.
In-Depth Analysis
Beneath the thrill and the mystery, there lies the theme of marriage and greed. Yoon-Cheol, a man desperate to break the monotony of his life, is easily manipulated by both his mistress and his greed to murder although he does not commit it. As the series unfolds, his position as a public figure is exploited as is his regret in realizing his love for his wife too late. The series also deals with the intricacies of marriage and through the character of Shim Jae Kyung, reveals that often turning a blind eye may not be the best way forward in life. It also raises the question of what fidelity and vengeance may mean and what a person may do when pushed to their limits.
Star Power
The series is enhanced by powerful performance of the main characters as well as the side characters.
Overall Opinion
The series is captivating as well as stimulating. It is a good watch for a Friday night when one is in the mood for a little bit of mystery mixed with popcorn and a drink of choice. It is sure to keep one entertained if not captivated throughout the series.
